I started making them for my own children and now others are requesting them. I love doing it so I do not mind, but was wondering what reasonable compensation would be for a character shaped cake. Has anyone sold one before?

I used to be in an ROP bakery class and we sold cakes. Character cakes sold for around $20-25. They are very cute when you use a star tip to decorate the top. Good Luck!

You should take some time to figure out how much the ingredients for a character cake generally runs you. Then factor in your time. Also, where you live is a consideration because in some areas you can charge more for a specialty cake. That being said, I charge between $40 & $50.

Yes, but that was ages ago. I used to charge about $25 per caked depending on the amount of work it required. If there was any special piping that needed to be done such as a cake with a hand piped baby crib on it, that would of course cost more. Wedding cakes, in case you need to know, are charged by the slice. If a cake is going to average about 50 slices at $1 a piece, then that cake would cost $50.

my father owns a bakery and he does shaped cakes 3 dimentional and all that , it always depends on how many people they want to serve and or if they want fresh fruit in it also .
his shaped cake feeding 20 people with no fruit just some thing like bavarian cream or whipped cream inside costs $65.00.
Then from there it goes up because the cake gets bigger .

i used to do all kinds of cakes, character, wedding, specialty birthday, you can do well at it but make sure you charge fairly, i used to charge $20.00 per which is not unreasonable in fact many told me it was too low. it takes a lot of work and creativity...one thing be careful if you're good you will have more work than you can handle, i finally had to quit because i was doing it out of my home and 20 cakes a week ! good luck.

you pay at least fifteen dollars for a boring sheet cake at the grocery store, so for a homemade, hand decorated cake, you should charge at least 25.00 . Of course that depends on how much your ingredients cost, how big/time consuming it is. You should make at least 50 percent profit.

I think that Wilton doesn't "allow" people to sell the character cakes commercially. You might want to check it out.

It depends on the size, how many layers, how many different colors are required for the frosting, how much time you think you're going to spend creating it, etc. I would say roughly $30.
