feed my 8 weeks puppy 2 times/day? Currently, i feed him 3 times/day. I would like to cut back the lunch meal because it's for me to go home to feed him at lunch time.

Depends on the breed. Toy breeds, you do not drop to 2x's per day until they are close to 4months. Other breeds, you can drop to 2x's per day by 10-12 weeks. Just make sure you feed as soon as you get home.

If you're feeding the dog a nigh-nutrition formula, twice a day (letting him eat all he wants to at the sitting) should be fine.

But an 8-week old pup should not be left alone all day. Puppies require training and socialization to grow up emotionally healthy. Dogs that are isolated a lot as pups can grow up to be fearful of new people and situations, or worse, very aggressive... And if you ever had to give the dog up, he would be deemed "unadoptable" by most shelters and pounds, and would most likely be put down.

This is the age, too, when you need to start house-training your pup. It's only going to get harder as he gets older.

Be a responsible doggie parent. We suggest that you have a neighbor look after him when you're not at home or put him into doggie daycare, so he can get what he needs to grow up to be a good doggie citizen... Otherwise, give him up now while he's still young enough to respond well to an attentive intervention by someone who has the time to care for him properly. Isolating him and neglecting his care/training isn't good for him, the community, or you.

Get an automatically timed feeder. Your puppy needs to eat 3 times per day for at least 4-6 months. Afterwards, he will still need to eat 2 times per day for the rest of his life. Older dogs will sometimes need to go to 3-4 times per day if they are ill. Remember this puppy is still a baby at 8 weeks of age. If you cannot come and check on the pup, get someone else to. Otherwise, if you don't want someone else in your house when you aren't there, take the pup to a boarding facility for doggie day care. It's very important for puppies to be played with and socialized, and 8 hrs alone is absolutely WAY too long for this baby to be home alone.

Just stat off by slowly minimizing his lunch time meals until there is none left. you don't want to take it away all at once because he will get too hungry. Just decrease it bu a little bit every day and he will get use to not eating at lunch.

see if a neighbor can feed the dog at lunch time, since the dog should be being potty trained at the time too...

When he reaches 1 year old, you can cut it back to twice a day.
