ear infection and was told by the E. N. & T. doctor she has to have it lanced. He explained to her that he would have to stick a needle in her ear to numb it so he could drain it. She's freakin' out and it has been days now. She says she wants to be put "under" first but the doctor says it doesn't work that way.
Has anyone had this done and what were the procedures? Did it hurt like h3ll?

she is on her second dose of penicillin and now her eye is oozing and has temporary paralysis in her face.

Hello there. I had ear waz removed and I don't know if it's related to what your friend is going through. But the procedure was very quick and fast. There was no pain at all, small discomfort periods that only lasted like seconds. Nothing to worry there's no real needle like the ones they use to take blood or to poke, it's a plastic needle in which the doctor fills it with warm water and flushes the wax out of the ear. You will have to hold a container next to your ear and cheek so it drains out and into it. It works and the pain is gone in minutes! Good luck.

Everyone has a different threshold of pain, so a lot will depend on your friend. I have had numerous ear infections, though--and I can't think of many things more painful than that! The lancing is just a momentary thing and then she'll feel tons better. This will also help prevent permanent damage to her hearing.

Nothing on your head can hurt worse than an earache. Does she understand that numb it means it won't hurt? Does she understand the procedure will make it stop hurting? It is just what you said and it means her pain will be gone. She should rush there for it and get out of her misery from the infection.

Having a needled put in her ear to deaden it is no worse than having her ear pierced. Tell her to get to doctor right now before that infection deafens her permanently.

lance is just fgancy word for cut. a bunch of you hold her down cover everthing with anti body cream and cut it open, then drop a note to the Dr. and say this is what happens when you refuse to use laughing gas. Change Dr.s there ones who will put her under.

Tell her to ask the doc for some mood elevator pills like xanax or valium before the procedure. They will make it so she won't be so scared of the whole thing.
Then afterward get some of her vicodin.

hey look yeah i know that you are going to go through the pain but wouldn't you rather just get it over with and just do it. In my opinion i would because after all that you will be free from the pain right so just get it over with and get the shot and get it drained.

I wouldn't think it could be much worse than going to the dentist. No, it doesn't hurt. It will make the pain go away.
