It seems that everyone I know that is religious is guilty about something , is afraid of feeling guilty or tries to make me feel guilty. Why must I always feel bad about myself, my thoughts and my actions? Shouldn't God love me for who I am?

I rarely feel guilty.

My sacrament of reconciliation always helps me make peace with what I have done, and where to lead my future. It's like when I go to confession, I'm seeing a psychologist. It's such a blessing!!!

I don't really see that with my other fellow Christians either. It seems Hollywood paints this picture, and surely, somewhere there are ppl who feel guilty --- but I suspect it's because they are doing wrong (giggle).

Yeah, God loves you for who you are. When you are not following his path he has to watch you hurt yourself. Since he's all about free will & stuff, well he just has to watch in pain while you get hurt. Once you stop purposefully going against God's plan is when he can lift you up, and set you free again. Like a daddy watchin his little girl falling down while learning to walk. Well, we're all supposed to be your brothers & sisters ... so, if we don't try to help you walk then we're dishonnoring our daddy. But, ah, we're all human, and make mistakes on helping our fellow human's ... so sorry when we push to hard ... but we don't like to see you fall either.

Perhaps because we do so much that causes us to feel guilt! Actually Jesus Christ came to take that guilt and cleanse us...that is why He went to Calvary. Guilt isn't all that bad a thing. If you do things that are wrong, you should feel guilty. If you don't, then you are in serious trouble. God gives us a conscience.

When I do something wrong, the holy spirit convicts me because I am a born again Christian. I immediately know I've done or said something I shouldn't and I talk to God about it. I don't walk around feeling guilty all the time. But I like the correction that God supplies, because "God chastises who He loves". If I want to live a life that follows after Jesus...I want Him to keep me on the straight and narrow.

That doesn't mean I walk around on eggshells hoping I don't do something wrong, not at all. I walk around in joy and praising His name.

The essence of religious living is trying to live life the way we believe God wants us to live it. When we fail to do that, many times the result can be feelings of guilt that we failed to live up to the expectations we created for ourselves. God knows our nature and knows that we will make mistakes. He forgives us even before we come to ask him for forgiveness.

The bottom line is that although we will make mistakes and sometimes feel a bit of guilt for doing so, we should not live life in a guilty state. We should live it in the joy of having a relationship with God and knowing that he loves us for who we are.

Everyone feels guilt at some point in their lives - religious or not. Are you truly feeling bad about yourself, your thoughts and your actions or is that steming from their judgment?
Don't follow people - follow God - ask Him for guidance. Never doubt His love for you. Check this website out:

Religion teaches us that we must abstain from the "Worldly Life" and that includes many vices such as those mentioned in the Ten Commandments and then some!
-Religion is our conscience that reminds and warns us about living extravagantly, causing harm to others, being arrogant and proud while looking down on others, etc.

It only equals guilt when you've gotten it wrong. When you get to the heart of most Abrahamic religions, guilt tends to disappear.

Guilt is a waste of emotional energy.

There are religions out there that do not advocate guilt. Unfortunately many of them do. I avoid them.

God still loves you but you say to God that you strive to follow him. When people sin intentially they are guilty for lying to God. God is not suprised but is dissapointed
