Heavyweights 15 rounds

Gene Tunney an EXTREMELY underrated fighter. One loss in his eighty eighy fights! That was to the great Harry Greb. He would have the height, reach, foot and hand speed advantage in the fight. Things to consider.

For the people like elgil who have no imagination and is obviously not a boxing fan this a dream matchup. In their prime. elgil you shouldn't waste your time.

Great fight Brent F between two legendary fighters. Both Tunney and Marciano never lost as heavyweights and between them they only had one loss that being Tunney to Harry Greb whom he later soundly defeated several times. Tunney was a great boxer with above average power and Marciano was a fighter that never took a backward step. This would not be an easy fight for either man as Tunney would circle and jab the ever charging Marciano who would land some hard punches to Tunneys body and slowing him down. I believe that Marciano catches Gene with his famous Suzy Q right hand in the 14th round and wins by TKO.

Marciano went undefeated in 49 fights, and Tunney lost one in 80 fights. Tunney was a master boxer and Marciano was a slugger. If Tunney sticks and moves all 15 rounds he wins a split 15 round decision. On the other hand if Marciano cuts off the ring and does not let Tunney fight his fight, Marciano wins. I have no winner in this one.

Tunney - W 83 (KO's 49) TF 88 - W pct 94% - KO pct 56% - wins over - Dempsey{2}, T. Gibbons and H. Greb - KO'ed by none - #30 ranked fighter
Great defensive fighter and decades ahead of his time

Marciano - W 49 (KO's 43) TF 49 - W pct 100% - KO pct 88% - wins over Walcott{2}, Louis, Moore and Charles[2] - KO'ed by none - #14 ranked puncher - #12 ranked fighter
Retired undefeated as champion and as a fighter
He was one of the smartest fighters ever, he stayed retired

This is a hard fight to call. My new name is Steven A. Smith. Can Tunney defensive skills (also he was never KO'ed) offset Marciano's awesome power? Quite Frankly, I don't know.

Tunney, far more easily than his 2 victories in the historic fights with Dempsey. Marciano probably would have lost to Patterson, and even Liston and his power were a real threat. Wisely, he retired.

If an aging Jack Dempsey with diminish skills put Tunney down for the Infamous Long Count.

I dont see any reason why The Rock cant put him down for the Ten Count.

Marciano KO9

smitty...i always enjoy your data and your answers, but legend has it that "the rock" did lose once, as an amateur, to a man named coley wallace. wallace bore an uncanny resemblance to joe louis, and even went on to play the brown bomber in a couple of movies. to robert r, i am not one of those who touts marciano as one of the best heavies simply bec he never lost(his competition was quite inferior and consists of names who were past their prime[louis, walcott] or out of their league[moore]), but it is overwhelmingly ludicrous to think that floyd patterson would have lasted 15 rounds with, much less defeated, rocky marciano. rock would've wiped the floor w/floyd(may he rest in peace). all props to patterson, whom i respect, but he had not the skill, nor the chin, nor the heart to have bested rocky. as for the original question, marciano takes this easy over tunney. he would've been hemorraging blood from numerous punches that he would've absorbed from tunney, but he would've caught up to tunney, like dempsey did..the only difference being once rock put him down, he woulda stayed down!

Rocky all the way. Gene could not handle his ackwad style. I think Rocky is teh greatest heavyweight ever. I think he would beat Ali, even if both were in their prime.
