In order to connect to the network, you must configure your Firewall to open a port for Gnutella. You can check instructions we've provided below for Windows XP Firewalls and Zone Alarm Firewalls. You can also refer to the Microsoft page on configuring ports on Windows XP.

A) WINDOWS XP INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL:

1. Within LimeWire, go to: Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewall Config
2. Make a note of the Listening Port located in the box next to "Listen on Port"
3. Go to Start -> Control Panel
4. Open Network Connections
5. Right Click on the connection you use to connect to the network
6. Choose Properties
7. Go to the Advanced Tab
8. If your Firewalled is Enabled go to step 10
9. If you want to enable Windows XP Firewall check the box (this will enable the "settings" button. If you are not interested in enabling your Windows XP Firewall, hit cancel -- LimeWire will not be affected, and you may stop following these instructions.
10. Under Windows Firewall Options, Go to the Advanced Tab.
11. Select Internet connection used. (Local area network or the name of your connection)
12. Click the Setting button
13. Click the "Add..." button
14. In the description field add "Gnutella"
15. Set the IP address to "127.0.0.1"
16. Check the TCP Radio button
17. Set the external and internal ports to the same port that you made a note of in step 2
18. Press OK
19. Repeat steps 13 to 16, except this time check the UDP radio button in step 16
20. Make sure the list of services has two items listed Gnutella, and make sure they are both checked.
21. Click OK

B) ZONE ALARM:

Simple instructions:
If you have Zone Alarm installed and try to run LimeWire, Zone Alarm will pop up an item saying "Do you want javaw.exe to access the Internet?"
Choose Yes. There is an option to allow this program to always access the Internet. LimeWire does not recommend checking this box, since this would allow any java program to access the Internet.
Next you will be shown another popup asking "Do you want javaw.exe to act as a server?"
Choose Yes. There is an option to allow this program to always access the Internet. LimeWire does not recommend checking this box, since this would allow any java program to act as a server on the Internet.

Advanced instructions:
If you have been using Zone Alarm for a while and have not been able to get LimeWire to connect to the Internet, you may need to change some settings withing Zone Alarm:
1. Start Zone Alarm Control Center
2. Go to Program Contol tab
3. Choose the Prorgams Tab
4. Make sure that javaw.exe row has either checks or question marks in the access and server columns. If there is a red cross in these columns click on the box and choose "Ask". Choosing "Allow" will also work, but this will allow all programs running on Java access to the Internet -- which is not recommended by LimeWire.

C) OS X FIREWALL:

To open the OS X Firewall for Gnutella access, please do the following:
1. Open up 'System Preferences'
2. In 'Internet & Network', open 'Sharing'.
3. Select the 'Firewall' tab (your Firewall should be on)
4. Select 'New...'
5. From the 'Port Name' drop down box, select 'Gnutella/LimeWire'
6. Select 'OK'
7. Restart your LimeWire application.

D) OTHER FIREWALLS:

Please allow both TCP and UDP connections for optimal performance:

Kerio Personal Firewall
McAfee Firewall
Norton Personal Firewall
SyGate Personal Firewall

First you have to right click on the actual MP3 file and click propeties, then go to summary>>advanced and give it an author/ tittle/ year/ genre etc...
Then you open Itunes insert your Ipod, navigate to your ipod on the left hand navigation bar... then drag and drop the mP3 FILes into the program

NOTE: limewire cannot put the files in, when you buy an Ipod, you should get itunes, if not download it from the apple site

GOOD LUCK DUDE!

Find what folder you put your downloaded files into (For example, mine is under "Shared". it may be different on your comp.)

Open Itunes and plug your ipod in.

Go to File>Add folder to library & find the folder you have your files downloaded into. Click that folder to highlight it and press 'ok'

The files should all be in the library of Itunes now. Click and drag your files over to your ipod icon on the left hand side. (The top of itunes may show the file going through. mine does anyhow, im not sure about other versions.) Check your Ipod icon to make sure your songs got on there and listen away!

Hope that helped :)
