I have a mac, and one time while I was restarting my computer, a window came up explaining how the iTunes Library had been damaged. My Ipod was also plugged in so all the the songs were taken off there too. The mpg files are still saved on my computer, but it would take a long time to put them back on and then I would have to rerate all of my songs. I don't have that kind of time. Is there any way I can restore my old iTunes library to how it was?

Got a few suggestions, but no definate answers, so bear with me.

First off, look in the trash (if you haven't emptied it already) and see if you find a folder called "Recovered Files". Search through that if it's there and see if you can find your iTunes Library file.

If you have recently downloaded and installed iTunes 7, look in your iTunes folder in the Finder, and you may see a folder "Previous iTunes Libraries" you can probably restore from that file.

Lastly, try running a Repair Disk Permissions from Disk Utility. Open Disk Utility from your Applications > Utilities folder. Click on the First Aid tab, and then click on Repair Disk Permissions.

Hope some of this helped!

Backing up and the ability to restore are key to disaster recovery.
