The fact of death does not alter whether there is a point to life or not. It would be like saying "there's no point getting up, because at night I just fall asleep again".

For what it's worth, I'm a Scientologist, and according my beliefs:
1) You can't die, only the body can. You can fall unconscious. You can keep dying over and over (as a body). But as an being, you keep on truckin'. That takes some stomach to even contemplate: no matter how painful or sorrowful life gets, you cannot escape it via death.
2) The greatest joy there is in life is creating. Scientology Axiom 10: "The highest purpose in the universe is the creation of an effect."
So go and find someone who needs some help with a task. Then help them to a good result. And afterwards ask yourself: "what was the point in that?"
You might then have your own answer.

No one can tell you that, but in the meantime you can make a difference in many lives. Make the world we live in a better place for ALL humanity.

Please call the President's comment line (202 456-1111) and ask him to pressure Sudan to accept the U.N. peacekeeping force to stop the genocide happening in Darfur, Sudan right now, today!! The U.N. peacekeepers already there will have to leave by the end of the month unless the U.N. acts today. Thousands are dying every month! Millions have been displaced and millions more need your help to prevent their slaughter!

The fact that there is nothing after death is exactly what makes life so worthwhile.

This is why atheists value life so much more than do believers, I think. If there were a life after death, life would hardly be worth living, would it?

Oh, god, that post below mine is hilarious. He points out that intelligent design couldn't come up with human eyesight...and concludes that means that eyesight must have been intelligently designed. Nice logic there, buddy.

All you religious sheep are all just looking for more more more...you want life after death. You want to go to the kingdom of heaven, you want god to touch your life, you want you want you want...haven't any of you stopped to think how selfish you ALL are. Only your beliefs are correct. Only your prayers should be answered. You all make me sick.

There is plenty after death, just not for you. After you die, your family gets to live on, and if you were at all a decent caring human being, they will have all those good values to carry with them through their own lives so that later they don't write a bunch of CRAP about life isn't worth living without a false god to greet you at the gates.

I could care less about religion, but I DO love my family, and I know that every day is worth living in order to spend that time with them. And when I do die like we all will, I hope that the time I spent will help them through their life, and so on down the family tree. I will not spend my life PREACHING at my son and telling him he will burn in hell if he doesn't follow a bunch of false and unproven nonsense that was written by some nobody 2000 years ago.

Bigger question
If there is nothing after death why not live life as you please not caring about its affect on other people. Shouldn't pleasure be our number one goal. Morals would only be a restriction on our pursuit of pleasure.
I do not believe this BUT I am trying to make a point)

If there is something after death, why are we not there? What is the point of life then if you always think about what happens when you die? Do you feel like dying or something?

Lack of belief in a creator is a dead-end, as you stated.

Google evolution fact or fiction. The fossil record is a fact. However, no one can prove how "new" genetic code was created. This "how did it happen" part of evolution is purely a hypothesis, even today.

Now why is this a problem? Check your history. In the mid 1800's, Darwin's hypothesis of purely biological creation led to godless political philosophies that have been and are the most oppressive that have ever existed. The Nazi’s were given a scientific justification for ethnic cleansing (Jews), and many nations use this justification today. The godless Marxists eliminate (kill) capitalists and (kill) believers and (kill) anyone else who gets in their way to create a dreary and oppressive society. Open your eyes, would you like to live in Cuba or North Korea, or during Stalin's programs and Mao's revolution. 10's of millions of people suffered and died.

Here is why this is so important. Philosophically, since God is a creator, he created each of us for a reason. Thus, each of us are unique, and have a god given purpose for life that we need to achieve whether janitor, lawyer, doctor, actor, quarterback, whatever. This totally aligns with the sanctity of human life. Thus, government should protect each of our individual rights and allow each of us to find our destiny. This aligns with a society that believes in a creator and freedom of religion. That is a good thing.

Here is my test for you: when you have a child, just look in their eyes and tell them they are a random quirk of nature and in the grand scheme of nature, their life is meaningless. I dare you. Yet, that is the intellectual dead-end of existence, if we are just random quirks of nature.

By the way, how did the brain get programmed for eyesight. To accept 2 images, combine them, to provide near instant assessment and response, millions of lines of unbelievably brilliant genetic code, how did that happen. We could put 1000 genius's to work on this today for 10 years, and they would not be able to figure out how to do that today. Not only is there no randomness, there is unimaginably brilliant creation involved.

It was a struggle for me, but take some time in Psalms and Proverbs, and try to grow a spiritual faith by trying to discern who God is, praying, etc. Don't do it alone. Find a group you are comfortable with.

Life does have meaning! Take care.
