Think it's worth pointing out that the Scots and Irish are British.

Pahahaha!
I've yet to meet a Scot/Irish person who hates the English. I'm sure there are people like that around, but I think "Why do the scots and irish hate the british?" is far too broad a term.
And just so you know, "English" and "British" are not the same thing. "Great Britain" is a political and economical coalition of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, so unless you mean to say that the Scottish & Irish hate themselves as well, I think that could do with clarification...

Well Im Irish and I dont hate the British - however from personal experience, I find SOME - not all - just the minority of British can be quite overpowering and loud - particularly when it comes to holidays. Have you ever noticed that in ANY resort in the world - if its heavily stayed in by the Brits - they can make it quite uncomfortable for other guests - the drinking and swearing can be out of control - and generally just obnoxious behaviour.
Whilst I know that not all brits are responsible for this behaviour - and bearing in mind my mum is english and I have lots of english friends - I dont want to be classes as "against the brits" but I do find the ones Ive described above dont do your country people any favours.

I am Irish and have lived in London for 40 years. I love Cockneys and the Scottish. I quite like the Welsh and the Cornish people. It is the 'high and mighty' - 'better than thou' of the English that gets up my nose. They tell the most stupid Irish jokes but when it is turned on them, they get quite upset: for instance 'Why are Irish jokes so stupid' Answer: 'So that the English can understand them'. No English person to whom I tell this joke thinks it funny. Another couple of non-jokes examples of what they are like: The highest decorated British soldier of all time was Napper Tandy, a Dublin man. The first proper British Police Station was in Dublin. The greatest British General of all time Wellington was a Dublin man. The Scots hate them, but then again the Scots hate everyone who is not Scottish (only joking Jock)...................

How many ill informed dimwits are there out there. The British are collectively the Scots, English, Welsh and Northern Irish. We all have British nationality and the majority are proud to be British. I am Scottish and a British national, personally I don't hold the English, Irish or Welsh in any great esteem (NI are ok) and I don't think they like us very much (maybe its because the government is full of Jocks). Anyway to get back to my point, to all the people who confuse English and British; you are all a bunch of ignorant fukwits.

I think its to do with history. Most Irish people I know in general don't like the British. I think nowadays it's less but it still is ingrained deep in many Irish people.

It's probably ingrained. After all, Britain did take over both of them. Scotland and Ireland were both once independent nations until Britain took them. Both fought against British rule. Ireland is still divided, and the Irish Republic had to fight as recently as the 1920's to become a nation again. Britain looted treasures from both--the stone of Scone was originally Scottish, and after the British took over Scotland they took the stone, and the Kings and Queens of England were crowned above it for centuries. It was only given back to Scotland in the past few years.

The Scottish still dislike the English, possibly because of government is still trying to get their hands on Scottish land. If it wasn't for the Scottish Parliament then who knows how what could happened. As for the Irish, England 'owns' the northern part. To be it seems like splitting Germany in 2. It's 1 country, and should be as a whole.

I now have English accent and when visit Scotland i get a warm welcome every time yet my sister has been to visit me on may occasions and has had a hostile welcome so is it the Scots/Irish that hate English or is it the other way round? through my experience its the English that do not welcome Scots and Irish people

I know exactly what you mean. I'm from good ol' England and moved to Ireland.
History class is hell, I feel like screaming: OMG will ya stop going on about how the English were evil, murderous oppressors?!
Even my English teacher, MY ENGLISH TEACHER! Went on a rant about England, during a look at Shakespear's The Merchent Of Venice. She insulted the country of the playwrite she was honouring, the playwrite she was adoring, complementing!
Rome invaded half the world and nobody's complaining. Germany went on a campain and barely anyone thinks hard on that now. They were on a huge scale compared to Ireland.
Face it people it's in past. Ireland most certainly wouldn't be recognised if the English had not come. The English gave them the most spoken language in the world, nobody would understand them. The English gave: Tv, tanks, protection, a system of government, a medical system. Nobody would know the Irish poets, places, writer, understand the Irish, if it weren't for the English.
*Points at Scots* Look at what they've given you too.
As for murder, taking land etc. It's happened to everyone. England has been invaded countless times. America, loads. Egypt, and lets not go into Iraq. There is no need to go on about it!
