Depending on the neighborhood they live in the friends they hang out with and the family they have.living with parents who don't care and friends that get in trouble what is there to do? Some places there isn't much to do but seem to drink so teens do it. Truthfully i think it depends on the person and half the people that go around saying that "i was so drunk last night" just say it for attention because they think it's cool.Alot of people think the cities are bad but im from the country and my school has parties alot and i don't know how many of them do drugs but alot for sure as for the drinking there's a whole lot that drink and then there's people that say they drink just to try to be cool. Some people that drink don't go get wasted they just drink enough to get buzzed. other people just drink and drink and drink which are the ones that get wasted bad. I was only drunk bad once and i didn't even think i had that much or was that bad until the next day but it's not like an everyday or weekend thing. My friends and me only do it around holidays prom homecomming stuff like that but i think it seriously depends on the people and all that but that's just my opinion

Teenagers today seem to be more "grown up" than the teenagers I were around back in the day when I was a teenager. (Don't be confused. Read that sentence again and then you'll "get it.")
Nowadays, teenagers grow up much faster. They have sex and/or make babies, start using illegal drugs, and consume alcohol ALL at an earlier age than the teenagers of my generation and my parents' generation.
Why is this? Ah, we can get into a lengthy debate here over why. Some of the blame falls on the fact that parents today have to work more hours than ever before, so they aren't around as much to watch over their brats.
Pop culture, especially movies and the internet, also has an impact on our very impressionable and curious teenagers.
Lastly, it all comes down to peer pressure, which is and always will be every teenager's Kryptonite.

Are you kidding? Kids have been drinking or using other illegal substances for generations.
Teenagers are at the age where they are stuck in the middle of becoming and adult who thinks for themselves and still being a child who is dominated by parents. Drinking and taking drugs is a way for kids to rebel and find out who they are. This is nothing new.
Oh and by the way so many people think that the sexual revolution happened in the 60s and 70s when in actuality the first sexual revolution in America was in the the 20s. The day of the flapper. The sexual revolution had a huge impact on how teens behave.

A lot of reasons. Maybe their parents drank or still drink in the house so they're influenced by that. Or maybe they go to their friends' houses and they drink there and they like it so they drink more. Or maybe it's because of all the movies, tv shows and ads showing how fun it is to drink and how cool it makes you look. Hopefully they will grow and know that alcohol is bad for them and it does nothing but kill brain cells and damages your liver.

Coming from a teenager myself who used to drink all the time-not anymore- I felt i would make more friends. I never had alot of friends and when i did this i became i totally different person. i regret doing it and i dont know how i ever lived all the stupid stuff i did. Alot of teenagers are seeing there parents drink or there friends and it puts pressure on them to drink!

Because their parents are focused in their jobs and fun, not the kids. Also the parents are a role model.
Also the TV and showbiz give them a bad example by the actors and their grosse behaviour. They live the present and want all in a fast way: fortune, sex, cars, fame, easy high school and driving.

Most of the time, because they think is cool. Peer pressure gets them when they don't have enough self esteem and can't say not. And for the people saying that they drank and survive, take a look at the newspapers and see how many died.

times change from generation to generation..as long as people are responsible and not driving after drinking..i do not see the problem..as long as they are smart about it...plus, kids growing up are always told not to do this, dont do that..and for some reason its just kids natural reaction to then want to do it..you can thank DYFYS for that..not sure if those are the exact letters, but you get my point..ya just cant lay the smack down anymore
