Pizza is great. I have been to several birthday parties where they had pizza and it allowed the parents to socialize during the party, instead of, spending the whole party cooking.
A lot of places offer wings as well as pizza so that you could offer a variety.

for my son's 1st birthday we had it after dinner to avoid this problem. Children can choke on hotdogs up age 6 actually. We just had cake and ice cream, which is what I plan on doing again for his 2nd birthday in 5 weeks. If you do want to have a meal of it, you are probably better off to have pizza, if you have the time and still want to do the meal idea then hamburgers would be my second choice. For little ones they can also be pulled apart or cut up if needed. Like I said my son will be 2 next month, but he doesn't like pizza and here it will be too cold to bbq by halloween, another reason I don't to the birthday party meal.

Neither...I did cute little open faced sandwiches shaped like butterflies (that was the party theme) for my daughter's 1st birthday. Everyone got to choose their meats and cheeses, and toppings to make the butterflies wings designs. It was really fun and cute, and very appropriate for young children to eat. Just an idea. If most of the guests will be 1, I doubt they would enjoy pizza or hot dog/hamburgers. But if they will be mostly older, I would go with pizza since it will involve less effort or preparation.

Hot dogs are the most choked on food so I would avoid those for a 1 year old. Go with pizza...everyone likes pizza.

No hot dogs. Kids will choke on them. Hamburgers are for older kids. I would go with Pizza Rolls. There bite size and not as messy as pizza. Make some grilled cheese, chicken & Tuna sandwiches and cut them in 4's. Have chips, dips and salsa. Prepair a pickle tray. Kids love pickles.
Good-Luck and have fun!!!!

Hot dogs and hamburgers are a bit more kid friendly... pizza sauce is hard to get out of party clothes, and you know they will have food all over at that age.
Good luck and have fun!!!

My daughter just turned one and I was faced with the same question. I ended up doing a variety of sandwiches cut up into fingers, PB&J, Cheez Whiz, etc and also provided lots and lots of finger foods, veggies, fruits, crackers, cheese, pickles, etc. In the end I found that when there is so much going on one year olds don't really sit and eat, and the finger foods worked really well because they could be busy "partying" and still get some food in them. Hope helps, a a wonderful party!

I wouldn't do hot dogs b/c they are processed meat and high in sodium, for my daughter first birthday we cooked hamburguers, it's very easy to break in small pieces for babies and not a chocking hazzard like hot dogs, pizza is also a good choice if you can offer a veggie type instead of pepperoni which is too fatty, the longer you can stay away from fatty, high sodium, sugary treats for your baby, the better.
Good luck and keep it short & simple for a 1 year old

Pizza . . .
but you really shouldn't overwhelm your child with *25* guests at a *first birthday* party!
"While keeping things simple for this first birthday, don't forget to limit the number of guests. Most babies this age are experiencing a double whammy of stranger and separation anxiety. A guest list of 10 may be overwhelming to your guest of honour. Your best bet is to invite only close friends and family."

I guess it all depends on your guest list. However, pizza is the easiest, but hotdogs might be the favorite. Either way, I am attaching a website all about planning a 1st birthday party.
Good luck and have fun. And take lots of pics.
