I would like to teach english in Korea within 2-3 months. I have been reading horror stories of those who went to Korea with bad experiences -such as not being paid on time or directors who are awful. I would like to teach in Seoul and have the school pay for my own private room and bathroom. Can you help me out?

Check out Dave's ESL Cafe: he has a lot of good info.

Also, there are quite a few Western language teachers in Korea with MySpace accounts. Network with them.

Check out Dave's ESL Cafe. It is by far the best place to look. My boss advertised on there, my previous boss didn't but what the heck it is a good place to start. You can also post your resume on the site and you will probably get lots of replies too. I did but you have to weed out the ones you definitely don't eant, cause you will get them from some odd places, and not only from Korean companies. Yes there are horror stories, about evil directors who don't pay, and housing that is terrible. You will more than likely be living in a one room place for a year, so be prepared. And if you aren't congratulations you got pretty lucky. It really can't be that bad though here if people stay, and I just signed up for a third year, and I have friends who have been here longer. You just need to know what you are looking for, make sure you understnad what a contract says before you sign it. For example does 7 hours a day teaching mean 7 hours straight no breaks, and does that include your break time or is 7 hours really 8 hours including the breaks between classes and an hour prep time that you have to be there for but you don't get paid for. Just be aware. Also look for the blacklist, there is a list of schools that you don't want to work at and it is on the internet. Often if you just google the school name you can find the blacklist if it's on it. Take these comments with a grain of salt though cause some of those people just weren't prepared for what they got into. That is living in a foreign country without family or friends here and not understanding anything half the people say to you. Good luck though I am sure you will do fine. Any questions though email me. farley_cathy@yahoo.ca http://www.geocities.com/hagwonblacklist/

I'm 12 but I'm 100% Korean.
You should go find a school website and read or
find someone who is very familiar with Korea.
Hope this helps!
