nope. it won't happen. remember that taiwan is still part of china. the mainland govt will not let any unrest start in taiwan, no matter how much taiwan wants to sever their ties with the mainland. chen shui bian will be ousted only thru diplomatic means. the military play a national defence role in taiwan and have little play in politics unlike thailand where the military generals have a strong influence in politics.

There is a lot of "disinformation" being promulgated in regard to the international legal status of Taiwan, and the above poster has added his share.

In fact, there are no international legal references which can be cited to show that Taiwan is Chinese territory.

Indeed, this is the exact reason why Taiwan cannot get into the United Nations ...... simply because the territorial title to "Formosa and the Pescadores" has never been transferred to the Republic of China. Hence, the ROC in Taiwan has no "territory." (Only the island groups of Kinmen and Mazu actually belong to the ROC.)

The PRC has of course never had any jursdiction over Taiwan whatsoever.

As for whether there will be a military coup by the Republic of China military forces, I don't think so. The United States is the only supplier of military arms to the ROC government in exile on Taiwan, and the USA will not let any unrest start in Taiwan.
