Do you have to burn off all the calories you take in everyday? Say you eat 1200 a day do you have to burn that many or can you just burn 500? Which is better to do?

Also on my last ? someone said to only do cardio for 30 min. Then how come people tell you to go jog for an hour in the morning?

Also can you tell me more about glycogen. Someone said something about this earlier too.

I'm trying to lose 30 lbs the healthy way so sorry for all the questions but i need to know.

Thanks

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Here is why it is hard for ladies to lose weight, especially the healthy way. The reason is, you are different because of the unique way the female body is designed to work, so that you can bear and nurture children. Your bodies are designed to store fat in the belly, thighs, hips and butt so that you can still have a healthy pregnancy in case of a time of famine. There's this hormone in women called Leptin that is the biggest culprit...Leptin is different because it’s a hormone that regulates appetite, metabolism and weight. Women who are overweight almost certainly have Leptin resistance, meaning that our bodies don’t react to Leptin the same way as men’s do. Your brains don’t get the signal that you've had enough to eat, which makes it way too easy to take in too many calories. It’s ironic that weight loss efforts for women can backfire and turn off that Leptin signal that you need to lose more weight! Not only that, but your bodies try to sabotage you at the time when you most want to lose weight, after you have a baby! Leptin resistance actually get much worse after pregnancy. That’s probably a big part of why mothers usually thought you ate far less than anyone else in your household but were still overweight and fought a hard battle to lose even a single pound.

There's something to try though... it's creative and sort of a new idea. I got most of this information from http://tinyurl.com/EasyWeightLossForWomen and my wife found it very helpful. I hope they don't mind that I borrowed it.

You asked a ton of great qeustions. Complete answers take a while, so I'll leave you with webadderesses where you ca get more information.

"Do you have to burn off all the calories you take in during a day?" No. But you probably want to. Bears, for isntance, take in way more calories than they need during summer and fall so they can hibernate all winter and burn off the fat. Not exectaly a good plan for humans, though. Humans who take in more calories than they use gain weight and tend to keep it on.

It is best to burn just a few hundred to a thousnad calories more each day than you take in. A healthy goal would be to loose 2-3 lounds (about 7,000 claories a wekk).

Execrice comes in 2 forms: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise is when you try to increase your endurance and tone (by jogging or swimming laps for instance). Anerobic exercise is when you try to build muscle bulk by weight-lifting

As you start your program, thre are no magic formulas that work for everyone, but keep this in mind, "Start slow and go slow." If you've not been weight-lifting then start by doing circles with your arms over your heads or by laying back on the floor and raising your legs up in the air, If your're starting aerobic exercises like jogging, start walking most of the way first and just jogging a litte. Each week try to work a little more, a little harder and a little longer exercise each time.

Oh, I almost forgot about glycogen. Glycogen is how your liver (and muscles to some extent) store energy. When you need rapid enery (like whn you just start to work-out, the liver and muscles will release the glycogen they have stored. If you are fasting for some reason, usually 24-48 hours, the glycogen stores will be depleted and all your energy will come from fat.) Does this mean you shouldn't eat? No! It means that you shoudl eat tasty foods that don't do a lot for filling glycogne stores for long periods of time, For more info, check out that webpage.

First Question: You do not need to burn all your calories. You need to leave some for your body to carry out normal tasks like digestion, walking..etc.

Second Question: 30 minutes of cardio is recommended for maintaining weight. If you want weight loss, you should get about 45 minutes of cardio in. You can do more if you want, but that is all that is necessary. I usually do a bit more, but that's because I want to build my endurance. It really depends on what your fitness goals are.

Third Question: Glycogen is a supplement for your joints. It is a good idea to take it if you do a lot of high impact exercise like running, or if you are getting a little older and your joints aren't what they used to be. It helps lubricate your joints, protecting them against wear and tear.

you should be very careful when losing weight. try not to focus on your calorie intake too much. I lost 40 lbs 3 years ago and kept it off by eating "clean" and exercising. you will be more hungry if you exercise because your body needs fuel to sustain itself. just be careful what you put in your mouth. eat whole foods, stay away from pre-packaged or processed foods and white flour, refined sugar and transfats, learn to cook with healthy fats (olive oil), eat lean meat (turkey, chicken, fish). lift weights (this will increase your ability to burn more fat), do cardio of any kind, if you run, do so for 30 mins. if you can, or gradually make your way up to 30 min. or swim, or cycle, keep your options open be active!! it should be a lifestyle change not a quick fix. And read!!! there are some great magazines that promote health and vitality, and not a stick thin model figure!!! Oxygen magazine being my absolute favorite. and remember!!! consult your doctor about your weight first, be knowledgable, be realistic and LOVE YOUR BODY!!!

There's a rule-of-thumb formula for estimating how many calories you burn at rest. For men: Add a zero to your weight and then add twice your weight. For women: Add a zero to your weight and then add your weight. Using the formula, your expected resting calories needs would be 2,100 a day. (To 175 add a zero, giving you 1,750, and to this figure add two times 175, or 350, for a total of 2,100.) So, thats how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. Take your total and minus 1200 from the number. Then minus 500. Thats how many calories you loose per day. 3500 calories= 1 pound of fat.

you should do 30-45 minutes of ddr, then eat something healthy and take a hour break and do 30-45 more. Hope this help!

1 pound of fat consists of 2000 calories. so to lose at least one pound a week, you have to burn 2000 calories.

Now, how do you burn 2000 calories? You burn more calories than you consume. That's where a reduced-calorie diet comes in. So, if you want to lose weight fast, eat small, healthy meals. Lean beef, chicken, veggies, and fruits. The veggies and fruits will have fiber to push out "unwanted" waste from your body and the beef and chicken will have protein to help you build lean muscle. You can have carbs, as long as they're GOOD carbs.... no bleached flour (white bread) or anything overly processed. Fruits will have a lot of good carbs in them.

Anyhow, how to burn more calories than you consume. Let's say you consume 1300 calories a day. You will have to burn at least 1300 calories a day to maintain weight. If you are trying to lose, say, 3 ounds a week, you are going to have to burn 6000 additional calories a week. It is completely possible. You are going to have to make major changes to reap benefits like that.

Half an hour of cardio two or three times a week won't cut it. You're going to have to work out every day and do multiple things: cardio and weight training. I would seriously do an hour of real cardio... if you can have a comfortable conversation with your friend while you're working out, you're not working hard enough. Don't push it though for the first couple of weeks, you don't want to injure yourself or burn yourself out too soon.

The first week or two, make small changes. Go ahead and work out three or four days for about 30 to 45 minutes, mostly cardio. Then push yourself.

My friend and I have the buddy system, and that's really helping us. We go 6 days a week for 2 hours. An hour and a fifteen minutes of cardio: 45 minutes on the elliptical, 30 minutes on the treadmill @ about 3.5 to 4.0 MPH walking briskly (less strss on the shins).

Then about half an hour of weight training. Most gyms have that "express" machines.... machines that work every part of the body and are low impact.

And of course, warm up and cool down. Make sure you stretch your muscles so that you don't strain yourself.

My friend's already lost like ten pounds in like two weeks. I've lost another 5, but I'm already smaller than her, so I will lose weight slower.

Good luck!
