What have you done lately?
It can be said with surety that science in Muslim countries today is underdeveloped, and that by and large Muslim societies are scientifically illiterate. A few thousand years ago you helped shape science...today your contribution to science is paltry; pathetic might be a better word. In fact, most reliable indicators suggest the scientific output from Muslim countries is nearly negligible.
Excluding Islamics from western nations...what have you done lately?

Well, one of the most remarkable achievements during the past years was that of an Egyptian Muslim, Mr. Ahmed Zewail. He is an Egyptian chemist who won the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry. There have been others but Mr. Zewail is the best example.
On the other hand, I have some comments on your question. This recession in scientific output has more to do with the economic situation in the region than with Islam as a religion. However, I agree that there should be more scientific contributions from Muslims and Arabs in general. I hope that this will go hand in hand with the increase in economic development and improvement of living conditions and education.

I'm not muslim but my grandmother, although she's a full - blooded native american, is. Honestly, I agree with what you said about how they helped shape science thousand of years ago. Why? They began to prove what was then modern science wrong just by stating what was in the bible. (i.e. earth is round). Today, they're still doing the same thing; proving science wrong. I believe that they'll prove that being humble goes a long way. Just because one country has big guns and a lot of technology, doesn't mean it'll win a war. Some of the most advanced types of science are those that work and don't need improvement. Think about it.

I am not a Muslim but I can say the same for the United States. This is an industrialized nation but must people are lacking in the sciences. That is why employers have to recruit outside the country for skilled workers. Plus, the workers will undercut the pay of the few scientists in the U.S.

Cheese when Muslims were advanced in science technology culture they were actually following the Qur'an. They abandoned Qur'an in 5 Hijri and from there begins the downfall. The hearsay which they started to follow don't you know that had stopped all the creative thinking and the person will be put to death who questions these stupid stories.
Here the subject is not individuals. Generally Muslims are backward because they have abondened the Qur'an.

heres a better question: what have CHRISTIANS done recently. the majority of american scientists, especially in the natural biology field, are Atheists or some classification of non-beleiver. (assuming youre christian) you can hardlytake credit for the accomplishments of those scientists, regardless of wether theyre from a western society or not.
