This was also part of the Senate Immigration bill, but usually it is a state by state issue. There is a bill on Governor Schwarzenegger's desk in CA that would not only give in state tuition, it would make them eligible for state grant money -which is already hard to get.
If all of OUR children who wanted to go could afford to go to college, it would be one thing. I think this is outrageous.
I am hoping Arnold will veto the one in California.

Totally aside from whether they pay tax, though, the reason we LIMIT how many poor immigrants can come is because poor people don't pay much tax even if they pay all they owe. People who make more money subsidize them. Nothing is 'free', it is just that other people are paying for it. Other people who want thier OWN children to get college funding.

Yup, you are so correct AFwife!! Many states are providing Illegals assistance. In California they are trying to pass a bill that will give financial aid to illegal aliens. If you know how financial aid works, it will basically mean that all Illegals will qualify for the maximum amount of financial aid as possible. That is because financial aid is based on how much their family earns, and since their family members do not file taxes, it will appear that they are desperately in need of assistance. Hence, taking away money for American students who really do deserve the assistance.
What can we do????

yeah rite!! over here in NC they will not give u a drivers license if you have no passport with a visa or if u have no social security.. i have a social security that i got thru immigration (im from brazil) and it says on the card that i can only use it with a workers permit and they lady at the DMV pulled out some kind of magnifying glass and looked it over...i was like look i got it from Charlotte...she just laughed at me.......and colleges will not accept u if you dont have a greencard...thats just sh**...

And why not? They work and pay taxes. Why should they not also educate themselves under the same government program you do.
And yes illegals do pay taxes. Why you buy gas does the pump ask if you a US citizen before it charges you taxes. When your landlord's property taxes go up and he/she has to increase your rent do they ask if you are a US citizen first? When you buy cigarettes does the clerk at 7-11 ask if you are a US citizen before you are charged taxes?
Illegals are paying into society just like you so don't tell me they don't deserve in state tuition like you!!!

they certanly are trying to pass a law to provide witha driver license those who doesn't have the legal status but they need to take the test and do everything that had been stated by the law same goes for the college under the current laws
