Depending on age. More excersize. I mean off the lead galloping. There is no such thing as a sedate dalmatian. They were originally bred to run for miles and miles behind carriages. Dalmatians need a lot of excersize which should tire it out and make him easier to live with at home.
If you didn't want a boisterous breed, why did you choose a dalmatian?

Basic Training of the Puppy - Read here https://tr.im/OlhCJ
The new puppy is certainly one of the most adorable and cuddly creatures that has ever been created. It is the most natural thing in the world to shower it with love and affection. However, at the same time it is important to realize that if you want to have a well trained adult dog, you need to begin the training process right away. The dog, like its related ancestor, the wolf, is a pack animal. One of the features of a pack is that it has a single dominant leader. Your new puppy is going to want that leader to be you, but if you do not assume that role from the very beginning, the puppy’s instincts will push him to become the leader.
The most important thing to remember about training the puppy during its first six months of life is that it must see you as the leader of the family pack. The essential thing is gaining the trust and the respect of the puppy from the beginning. You will not do this by allowing the puppy to do whatever it wants to do whenever it wants to do it. On the other hand, a certain amount of patience is required. Most people err in their early training by going to extremes one way or the other. Although you need to begin the basic training process at once, you can not expect your dog to do too much at first. Basic obedience training is fine and should include simple commands like sit, stay, and come. Remember that trying to teach the dog advanced obedience techniques when it is a puppy is much like trying to teach a five year old child algebra.
It is also important to restrain from cruel or abusive treatment of the puppy. You can not beat obedience into your dog, and it certainly is not going to engender feeling of respect and trust. House breaking is an area where this usually becomes a problem because of the anger that is triggered when the puppy fails and creates a mess inside the home. Although this issue must be addressed without anger, it most be addressed. If you allow the puppy to eliminate inside the house, it will continue to do so as an adult dog. The same thing is true of other destructive or dangerous behavior such as chewing and biting. Do not expect the puppy to grow out of it. You are going to need to train the puppy out of it, but you should do so firmly but with a sense of play and fun using positive reinforcement and lots of love and praise for good behavior.

reward him/her when quiet only. Ignore and turn back on when boisterous. Rewarding him/her with attention when being overly active will increase the behaviour. Don't shout at thim as this is also a way of giving attention. Totally ignore as with a naughty child. When he calms down and comes to see you sitting in a chair reading your paper.....and sits calmly down...then calmly put down the paper and say good boy/girl and rub on the chest or on the ear or give tiny treats. Confirming that good behaviour gets your attention is the way forward. Try for a few weeks. Also you can get a squirty bottle of water and shoot a jet at his/her head if out of 'control' but only use this as a last measure!!!!!

Dalmations are singlehandedly one of the MOST BOISTEROUS dogs in the world. Controll is not the word you are looking to define.
However, Sheer EXHAUSTION is a term you should become comfortable with -- as in get out there and play with your dog until you can't see straight. This is how you 'control' a boisterous dalmation.

My lab was insane when she was a pup. I seriously thought she had some form of puppy ADD. But the key was obedience classes and patience. I believe all dogs should get obedience training. Nothing (besides love) is more important in a dog-person relationship.
Check your local Humane Society, ASPCA, or PetSmart or similar large pet store for positive-reinforcement-based dog obedience classes.
Good luck!

Dalmatians can get pretty noisy. You need to burn off some of your dog's energy. One of the best ways is to take it for long walks, over 30 minutes. Here you can easily establish leader/follower relationship with your dog. Also your dog can toilet itself away from home. And you both get good exercise by walking. Maybe you will meet new friends too.
When you walk your dog, keep the collar high up on the neck, so that you have control over the dog. Don't let the dog walk ahead of you. You are the leader, therefore the one who walks in front. Be relaxed, calm, and strong when you walk. The dog will recognize your attitude as leader and will assume the follower role.
If your dog barks and goes to the front door when people knock, establish a no-go zone at the front door where your dog is forbidden to go without your permission.
Teach your dog simple tricks, like "sit", "ok", "fetch", "no", etc. Tricks can be used to reestablish you as leader daily. My dog must sit before I will put on his lease before his walk. He loves his walk and will do anything to be able to have his walk. He may not leave the house before me. I am the leader, not him and I make sure he knows it using these simple, easy to learn tricks. These little tricks make both me and my dog feel good.

Dalmations are an active breed. I grew up with them. Great dogs though and smart!!! You need to take them outside and get their energy out and their muscles pumped. When they are inside, just keep reminding them that they can not jump all over the place and that inside is a calm place. Male dalmations are a bit more hard headed than the females. Treat them like a toddler by reminding them and punishing them by giving them a time out (putting them in their crate) when they don't listen and they will soon learn.

Give him chamonile Tea before training sessions, so he will settle daown enought to focus..After he has learned to focus on you, and has learned that it is rewarding, you can drop the 'tea' treatment..
Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress, and allow him to focus. It can be given as needed.
Its in your grocer's tea section..
Check out this new product..You can get it in USA through eBay> http://www.cannyco.com/CannyFiles/index.htm take a look at the videos..Search on line for reviews..amazing training aid!

Oh my I am a dog owner and breeder and Dalmations can be very troublesome. They are a smart dog, and will protest when they are not happy. I had one chew my bathroom wall down one day while I was at work. My suggestions are to definately crate train them, and then use a water gun when his/hers barking is out of control. But you can only use the watergun when he barks and not any other time so that they understand that the barking is unacceptable.
