it also depends on her height. if she weighs 150lbs & she's tall then she's not fat. but if she weighs dat much and she's only 5'1-5'4 then u have a problem!

I think for every individual, it is different.
It would be dependent upon body size, structure and bone structure.
Most doctors will tell you that 20 to 40 lbs overweight, for most medium structures, is okay and not unhealthy, however some doctors will disagree.
I would have to go with that for my answer. I'd say that 20 to 40 lbs overweight is not bad. However, if you have other contributing factors, such as no exercise, poor eating habits and smoking cigarettes, they would increase your chances of having a heart problem or other problems which the weight gain will effect in the long run.
Not everyone with high cholesterol is overweight. Not everyone who exercises has perfect health. It's all based upon the individual's structure, etc.
Your daughter, at age 12, is overweight. Because of her age, and being a mother of 2 girls, I can tell you two things for 100% sure. Number one, she may have the fat gene. In some families, it is a GENE that causes weight gain. Number two, if you don't change her eating habits now, her gain will become worse year by year.
My own daughter was overweight. I decreased her carbohydrate intake by removing bread, chips, candy and sugar from her diet and she didn't even know it! I put green beans in her omelets, and fed her more veggies (disguised) and suddenly, this last year, she has begun eating her vegetables and doesn't even want junk food anymore.
Unlike my mother, who was mean by not letting me even taste a candybar till I was 15, I think all kids need treats. This, however, doesn't mean they can't have a treat that is good for them, such as a vegetable and dip, if they do have potato chips, they get a few and some veggies or some honey in cereal or fruit in cereal...those things taste great and they sure will help toward preventing further weight gain.
My child is 6' tall now, age 15 and weighs in at 145. I do not consider her overweight, because of her height. Dependend upon your child's height, it would determine if they are overweight right now or not.
The main thing to consider is that how she eats now is the mold of how she will eat for her entire future life. She is 12 and is forming lifelong paths in her neuralcenters. Her choices now will effect her for the rest of her life. If you feel she is overweight, then it's time to take action and help her out now, because anything you do for her now will effect her future, and most likely your grandchildrens' futures as well, because the way she eats is how her children will eat.
I hope this has been helpful. Sounds like you're a good mom or you would not be concerned about her health. I'm sure you know the right paths to take from here.
Good luck!
:o)

Consider fat being "too fat" if others are insulting your daughter. On the other hand society makes too much of peoples sizes. All teenagers want these days is to be the skinniest kid in school. This is something that parents have to make their kids realize, they are themselves and God created us all wonderfully. The best way to know if your daughter is overweight is by height and mass index. Have her see the doctor who may refer her to a nutritionist if necessary. In the meantime if your daughter wants to lose a few pounds have her limit her take ( but do not cut it out totally) of her favorite snacks. Try to keep her from eating too many starches. Good luck with this and if your daughter feels bad about her weight remind her pretty goes to the soul and a lot of skinny people out there are really ugly under theirs.

Does her Dr. think she's unhealthy? It's hard to say because I don't know how tall she is. I think fat would be someone who is 50 pounds over their weight class, not 5. Talk to her Dr. first, if he/she recommends a diet plan, than do it with her so she doesn't have a bad self image of herself at the same time. Good luck, that's a really good question, I hope you get some good answers.

That depends on how tall she is. My 13 year old only weighs 11 pounds less then me, but she is 2.5 inches taller. Weight does not determine if your fat. BMI does. Check with a doctor.

FAT = 10 to 15 lbs over your average body weight for your height.
Now, I'm not a nice person overall; but I'm going to try to be nice here. You daughter needs serious help if she is already pushing that weight. Serious help and you need to be the one to encourage her to loose weight by joining a gym with her and buying healthy foods at home. Is that really bad? Ummm, YES.

I think "fat" to me means "overweight and out of shape". I don't know what the actual number of lbs would be a definition of "fat", for me it's about 140 lbs, it would be more for a taller person or for someone who works out (muscle weighs more than fat). I'd say, to be 150 lbs at 12 is either seriously overweight or overgrown. I think I weighed about 90 lbs in my early teens.

it depends on how tall she is. personally i wouldnt worry about it unless she gets to be like 200 pounds. it could also be muscle. if ur concerned i would probably take her to the dr to get a body fat percentage done. but it doesnt sound like she is necessarily fat. i consider fat to be like 600 pounds but overweight is like 30 to 40 pounds more than what u r supposed to weigh like i said it could be muscle not necessarily fat.

well sorta. when i was 12 almost 13 i weighed about 112 lbs. i wouldnt call her fat but i would just say she was healthy and just be glad she isnt anorexic. its better to be a little over weight than be too skinny. my boyfriend wouldnt have wanted me if i was skinny so he thinks that skinny isnt pretty. healthy is. i think that if your are 100 lbs or more over weight dependeing on your height and age then your fat.

no. you have to take into consideration height. So many women who are a normal size think they are fat when they really aren't. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs. That is considered normal. look up the BMI on the internet and you can figure our approximately how much you should be weighing for your height. It is pretty reliable.

compare your BMI to the chart.
