Try using "melatonin." It is available from General Nutrition Center or other health/vitamin stores. Take one tab 30 min. before bed.
It is a natural product that your body produces during the day. As we get older, we produce less and, therefore, sleep less. It has been studied by NASA for astronauts and it is also used by some blind people to help them with their circadian rhythms.

Here are some suggestions that work for me: 1. A good workout in the afternoon or after work helps. 2. Take a warm bath before bedtime. This helps regulate your body temperature for bedtime. 3. Drink a warm glass of milk. It's an old piece of advice, but a good one. 4. Don't ever have caffeine (coffee, tea, soda, even chocolate) past 3pm. 5. When all else fails, I take a Simply Sleep. This is basically Tylenol PM (without the "tylenol") so it is safe and non habit-forming. Good luck, dear!

I wish there were - I suffer from insomnia and have tried everything in the book. Right now I take herbal supplements, melatonin and a sleep aid every night. My doctor refuses to prescribe prescription sleep aids - apparently many doctors are against it. I've tried ambien, xanex, and lunesta. Xanex rocks - but is highly addictive. I wish there were an easy answer - I'd love to be the spokesperson for it!

One thing to try is after 20 min. of not being able to fall asleep in your bed, go to another room and read a book or watch TV until you feel sleepy. If you stay in your bed when having trouble going or staying asleep, your subconcious will associate it with your bed and you will continue to have insomnia. I'd at least give it a shot before going to a Dr. or taking OTC or Prescriptions...

I use to work nights and had trouble sleeping during the day, so I took Melatonin. It is a natural sleep aid, you can get at any drug store like Wal-Mart, Rite Aid. Get the 3 mg and take up to 3. It has no side affect. Good luck.

Benadryl, it works for me. I take two and read for an hour and am out like a light. Good luck, insomnia sucks, had it my whole life and benadryl is all that really works consistently.

You have to put yourself on a sleep cycle and stick to it no matter what. Exercise too because you need to make sure you are tired. There are meds out there to help as well to get you on a cycle.
