There is no reason to have a draft. The US has more than enough volunteers to fight the war, so why would you want conscripts, which traditionally fight much worse and die at a much higher rate than volunteers?

I would have to say the there is a distinct possiblity of a upcoming draft. I cannot say when it may occur but I followed some legislation that the president of the United States, Mr. Bush passed during his second election year. He has passed an executive order that allows him to reinstate the draft at any time.
Additionally GW has made over 700 additions to bills that he passed. The president has the right to amend any bill before he signs it into law. This is more than all the previous 4 presidents combined.
This is a brief explination of what I have kept my eye on. With the preceding events occuring in the middle east, I would have to say, if the next president is Republican or is supportive of a war. The draft will be reinstated. Also I have attached a page with an example of how dangerous these powers are of the president of the US.

I feel like it shouldn't and probably will not happen. There are more people against than for this war (just like in Vietnam....) and I think it would take a huge toll on America. I also feel that most people would head for another country, or hide out. There are a lot of people who are against the war, and don't want to fight in it....why reinstate the draft and have all those people fight for something they dont believe in?
I dont feel it would be a good idea to do this...and you can see from recent polls that the enlistment rate is well below normal...doesn't this show the president something?
I feel it's very very wrong (somewhat like slavery) to force people to fight if they don't want to fight. This is America. People should be free to do as they please....and a draft is not a way to allow us to do that.

I'm too old to be drafted, but I have 2 sons who are registered.
I am against 100%.
Haliburton and the other war profiteers have made billions off this fiasco. Let them hire mercenaries, leave the kids out of it.
Never hire a coke head. Bush made this mess, why do more have to die in order to prolong the profiteering?
Here's how this situation could end peacefully.
Engineer another Jewish exodus, this time to the western hemisphere.
Much of Texas is undeveloped desert. Cut Texas from 40 miles north of Houston straight across to New Mexico. Money changes hands, all landowners are compensated and anyone who doesn't want to live in "New Israel" also will be compensated for their moving expense. Same for businesses, relocation and moving expenses paid for by Israel.
This ends the middle east crisis and solves the illegal immigration problem as Israel would do a much better job at maintaining the largest stretch of our Mexican border than the feds do, leaving them to concentrate along the rest of the border.
I know this sounds crazy, but so did sending them to the Palestinian desert 60 or so years ago. this could be done and would show the world that we have the ability to open our minds and use them.
Vote for reform, vote for change. Your grand kids will judge you one day.

I am all for a draft, might teach some of these lazy a**ed kids some respect for all the privileges they take for granted.
I would have loved to join the military, I would have been PROUD to join the military, but I am disabled so I have to settle for SUPPORTING our military any way I can!!
It used to be an Honorable thing to do, to go enlist....now society has dumbed down so much...
Yes I think a draft would be an EXCELLENT idea.

No, expanding conventional military forces in the Muslim world will not solve the current crisis.
