bribe him with his favourite snacks

I've used this technique a couple of times on my dogs. I have them lie down then I have somone hold a cookie (any snack will work) when i see that they have there attention I have them move the snack in a circular motion. While this is happening i am standing on the side of the dog the first couple times I have lightly pushed the dog (as to roll over) when the dog picks this up I them used a hand gesture (usually an arm roll) this will become the signal for the dog. Voice commands don't work as well. Good Luck.

Roll It over yourself! Get down on the floor, and roll it over while saying "roll over" over and over. When it gets rolled praise the heck out of it, maybe give it a treat. Keep this up and it will learn to do it on it's own on command. When it gets that spoken command down, you can even teach it hand signals! Repeat the spoken command while using a hand signal! Again praise the dog like crazy when it does what you ask. Most important, be patient! Training dogs take time!

1. Have dog lay on floor on his back
2. Present a treat on the left side of his head, get him interested in it
3. Once your dog is paying attention, lift the treat over his head to the other side of his body while saying 'roll over'.
4. Give dog the treat.

5. Repeat as often as needed until your dog gets 'roll over' from standing position.

What size dog is it? And what breed? I have a large dog. Once he learned how to lay "down", I took a treat and put it in front of his nose. I made him follow it from one size of his head to another. You may have to help him by pushing his back legs over for him. Once he gets his whole body over, and only then, give him the treat. It's easier if you have a dog who likes his belly rubbed, because it will be easy to get him on his back, from there you can get him to keep rolling.

The way I taught my dog was to get him in the lie down position and then use a treat to circle around his head to get him onto his back. Once he was on his back I helped him onto his other side. I did this with him for about 5 minutes at least 4 times a day. In three days or so he got the point. Its better when your working with your dog to do it in short periods of time more often. Dogs lose interest very quickly.
