could it be a tick? They have round bodies and bury their heads under the skin. Don't pull them out without a vets instructing you.

Sounds like a tick. Mites are in the ears and its to small to see, I'm sure you know what a flea is. So I'm guessin its a tick. Try some advantage for fleas and ticks. It really works.

That is a Tick! Very dangerous to dogs. Get some two in one flea spray that also kills ticks. Spray directly on the tick and leave for ten min. Then take tweezers and GENTLY pull it out of your dogs skin. Make sure you get the head or it can cause infection.

That sure sounds like a tick to me. Since I don't have a picture, I cannot say for sure, but get your dog on a good flea and tick solution like Frontline as an example.
