Now, I'm an Atheist and have been for years. I think the bible is nothing but a load of fairy tales, Jesus never existed (he's just a rip off of Krishna), and both Heaven and Hell are fake (there is no afterlife whatsoever).
I just wanted to preface my question with that to show just how strong of an Atheist I am.
So, I've had dozens of Christians (not just here, but in real life) tell me that if I just asked tried asking that stupid, imaginary god of theirs into my life and prayed or whatever for a week (or two weeks, month, whatever. They said various lengths of time), my life would be better and I would notice this god of theirs making my life better. So, this would then prove to me that their god is real.
But what if I replaced "god" with "The Purple Unicorn of Osiris" and prayed to her for a month? If it made my life better, would you Christians then believe that she was real and start worshipping her?
Why don't you X-ians pray to her for a month and witness her greatness?

Tomthump,
Osiris is the Purple Unicorn's version of heaven. It's called Osiris because she found the name to be really pretty and liked the sound. She lives in Osiris, hence why it's The Purple Unicorn of Osiris.

I am an atheist too. I tried to believe in God. I sincerely wanted to, because my husband was battling his own "demons" at that time. That was over two years ago. No surprise, I'm sure, but God never made his/her presence known.
I'm a die-hard atheist now, and I'm happy to say my husband chucked the whole Christian myth and is now simply a deist.

First, if you have done any historical research, which atheist say they need evidence, you would know that the person of Jesus very much exsisted. Your issue should be not that he did not exsist but whether he truely did what is said he did and if he were who he said he was. There is to much historical and archeological proof to discount that Jesus the person really exsisted. With that said....
If you prayed and let Jesus into you life you would experience a difference. The promise is not that you will have no problems or have the so called perfect life as some of the focal extremes are saying today but that you will have an inner peace....
Your third point about praying to something other that God would be out of the question for a Christian. That would be praying to a false idol and that in their faith is not allowed.
In order for this forum to actually get any where we all, no matter what are beliefs are, need to mature in our discussions and arguements on here and act like the good lawyer and try to see things from all sides whether that is how we see it or not and then present our case....do not go out and try to tell the Christian what they believe or do not believe until you have really, and I mean really studied and educated your self....did I really say that you need to educate your self....that is a key to sounding intelligent and not like a little kid name calling....by the way education goes for voting, working, being married...all phases of life....

Haha, your funny.
Me being a Christian, I can only tell you my opinion obviously....
I have not ben a Christian my whole life. At one point I doubted practically everything that was thrown at me in one way or another. However, after being invited to church by a friend of mine, I decided to go. The reason why I went was simple.... the prospect of girls...... yeah sounds bad I know. I went week after week to the normal service and to various small groups because I started getting interested in the life of Jesus. Not nessesarily about him being the son of God, but about the words he spoke and what he was about (which by the way there is proof of Jesus existing, almost all modern scientists believe this atheist or not. Also he is in more religons including Hewbrew and Islam.) Needless to say, as time passed, the information I was recieving started to work on my heart and mind. I soon found myself praying for myself and others. Now, who is to say that God directly interfiered to satisfy my prayers? That I do not know. However, that, my friend, is what FAITH is. Beilieving in something higher then yourself that cannot be proven directly. To say that there is no higher entity that created the universe is to be very egotistical, because to say that with our modern science we are able to prove how the universe or much less Earth was created, is ignorant and bigheaded. That is like a few hundred years ago when people believed the earth was flat and the center of the universe. Though it may be "proved", in time, it was proved false.
Me, being nothing but human, cant possibly explain the intricesies of the creation of a universe, therefore, i dont worry about it. It doesnt concern me. What concerns me is the people around me here and now, and my soul...... the rest I put in the hands of God.
By the way. I wouldn't pray to "the purple unicorn of osiris"............... I dont like purple.
Thanks and GOD BLESS

All I can say is that God has turned my life around and I used to be an athiest. That's all the proof I need or will ever need. We've all worshipped false gods in our past: money, sex, entertainment, success, career power. You'll find that your purple unicorn (not a very intelligent analogy by the way) will be just as hollow.
Your life is your concern. If you can ignore all of the people in your life claiming to benefit from a relationship with God, that's your choice.

Why do you seem to hate those that care for you and won't you to have what they consider to be the most important thing.
They are not attacking you when they say you should try to know Jesus. They don't mean you any harm.
You have the choice, don't be angry when people try to give you what to them; is more precious than gold or diamonds, the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
If you could save a drowning man by just telling him where a life jacket was, would you tell him or not, would you expect him to be mad at you about telling him?
If I could tell you something that would change your mind I would, if pleading would do it I would plead. I would do anything for you not to make the wrong choice, but I would never try to take the choice from you or force it in any way.
Hey, he died for you that's between you and him, I have already told him where I stand.
You have to believe not just talk, many today think they have wisdom but only have knowledge. Believe and you can know him, if your angry you are half the way their, how can you be angry at fiction or story tellers.
God Bless.

"Osiris (ōsī´rĭs) , in Egyptian religion, legendary ruler of predynastic Egypt and god of the underworld. He was the son of the sky goddess Nut and the earth god Geb. The great benefactor of mankind, Osiris brought to the people knowledge of agriculture and civilization."
It might be more useful to pray to the owner of the Purple Unicorn. Horses and Asses of the divinity are not commonly known to have divine powers, but I may be wrong.
The God of all creation is the god that Christians worship. He is eternal and universal. Christians believe that all humans have a soul and even non believers too have a soul.
Prayer to Purple Unicorns may help some people for all we know, but Christians may prefer their own God

I dont understand Atheist people. You believe that there isnt a God yet you post a question about Him. How could i refer to something or someone i dont believe exsits? Like Im not going to pray to the Purple Unicorn of Osiris because i dont believe it exists, im going to bring it up and ask questions regarding the unicorn that could be the figment of your imagination.

Give it a try and see if praying to the unicorn will improve your life. If you believe nothing at this time, it can't hurt to try the unicorn as an experiment. But see about real experimentation and not mere coincedence (as I see a lot of in Christianity today). And for the record, I am a Christian.

First, no reputable historians disbelieve Jesus' existance. Jesus is even acknowledged to have existed in the Jewish Talmud. Do a little more research on this; whether you believe He was the Messiah is a separate issue.
Second, God will only come into your life if you earnestly repent and give your life over to Him. He's not a show pony that performs on command. You must be respectful and humble.
Christians don't need to pray to false gods; we know who the real God is, because we have faith AND because He's revealed Himself to us. So the Catch-22 for you is: He will not reveal Himself to you unless you believe; you will not believe unless He reveals Himself.
I'll pray for you. Peace.

Boo! Purple unicorn? Heresy!
The one true goddess is the Invisible Pink Unicorn - just check the link below. She was around long before the Flying Spaghetti Monster was a twinkle in anyone's imagination.
Are you confusing Her Holiness with the despicable Purple Oyster of Doom?

..thou dost protest too much.. It doesn't matter, at the final outcome all will be rescued from death (and the effects of imPerfection) because all will believe (after 500 years of judgement day/review). Most christians believe because of a personal experience.. A purple unicorn has never entered their life; and Osiris is viewed as very dangerous..
