My family is thinking about moving to the Knoxville, TN area. I've heard that this area is in the "Bible belt." My family belongs to a religion other than Christianity. How will my family be treated by people in the area? Will they be accepting of our differing beliefs? If anyone of non-Christian beliefs has personal experience with this topic, please share your experiences with me.

Bridget--great name.

Knoxville is a really nice area, and most people are Christians due to the region, culture, etc. However, you'll probably be surprised at how welcoming they are. Just don't be surprised if they invite you to church, even knowing that you're not a Christian.

In addition to spending 5th-8th grade near Chattanooga, I went to high school in Knoxville. Because of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a bit more accepting than Chattanooga. (See my answer there.) Personally, though, as a gay man, if I had a choice, I would move somewhere other than Tennessee.
