The latter, it is better to have something in your stomach, then nothing at all. As long as you have milk with it, you are getting some nourishment.

The bottom line is that even the sugary cereals offer a few calories to get your engine up and running for the day. And most people have milk with their cereal, which is a good thing. So I would have to vote for the cereal over the no breakfast, which will leave you with a real mid-morning let down.
But why such a Draconian choice? Why not buy a cereal that isn't full of sugar and have a reasonable breakfast? Even if your mom usually buys the cereal, there's nothing to stop you from buying a box of cereal on your own.

When you eat breakfast in the morning, you "reset" you metabolism. If you eat dinner at 7p and wake up at 6a, it's been 11 hours since you last ate something. If you don't eat breakfast, your body assumes that the reason that you haven't eaten for 11 hours or more is because there is no food available, and it slows down your metabolism to preserve energy and calories. This means you become sluggish and, that when you finally do eat lunch, you'll burn fewer of those calories.
Even if you eat some sugary cereal, you're at least getting a few of the vitamins that it was enriched with, and some calcium and protien from the milk. It also lets your body know that you aren't in a starvation situation, and revs up your metabolism.

breakfast is the most important meal of the day. i would say breakfast with sugary cereals would be better than an empty stomach BUT the sugary cereals must be taken moderately.

sugary cereals are not the devil everyone makes them out to be, if you aren;t eating them every morning, o all day long than there is no problem. It's all in moderation with everything and every kind of food. the more you limit your kids from ever having sweets, the more they are going to want them, hypothetically. My kids do not like to eat breakfast, but i usually get a cereal bar, or a banana into them around mid morning. they seem to do just fine at school.

I'd say breakfast with sugary cereal. Sugar isn't exactly *bad* for you--it's just not really good for you--no nutrition in it. It's not like too much cholesterol or fat. It's just empty calories.

It's a wash. Why are those the only choices?
No breakfast, you will be hungry all morning long, tired, and most likely grumpy.
Sugary cerals, you will be satisified for a moment, but the sugar will spike your inuslin levels and wreck havoc with your metabolism all day, leading to a tireing day that will most likely leave you grumpy.

i would skip the breakfast. You could always grab a piece of fruit as you are going out the door if you get a munchy craving. All the cereal will do is leave a coating of sugar on your teeth to start them rotting first thing in the AM.

Since you must eat breakfast, then the choice is to have the sugary cereals, as long as you don't do this everyday. And there are other cereals to which you can add honey, if it must be sweet.

They say you MUST have something in the mornings, so I'd say the sugary cereals are better, but don't make it a habit.
