I think the best dog for you is a pure breed german sheperd! this is because if you get him/her when their pups it would be better because they will get to know you and if you train it propley he or she will look after you. and with you saying your not at youre house that often the dog will look after your house and thats very handy but when youre with the dog give him/her lots of love and attension in return! ive got two of them one of each they are really nice dogs and good!. So try it!

Honestly, it's asking a lot for a dog to be home all alone during the workday, and the weekends, too. I work a lot, but I'm home with my dogs every chance I get (and that includes holidays and weekends). It might be best for you to not get a dog until you are prepared to spend some time with it. I'm sure you have the best of intentions, but no dog will be happy being along so much. If you absolutely must have a dog, you might consider a senior dog that will be content just hanging out on the couch, or place the dog in doggy daycare while you are at work (so at least he or she will get some socialization and attention).
There's nothing wrong with waiting to get a dog until you have a less busy lifestyle. Have you considered a low maintence pet, like a cat? Some cats, ragdoll cats in particular, are very dog like in their attitude, but can be left along (especially if you get two) and be very happy. If you are going to get a dog no matter what anyone says, you might consider getting two so they can keep each other company while you are away for so long.
Hope this helps!

You don't have the ideal living situation for a dog. Must if you must have one, I suggest a rescue dog. So many animals are killed every year due to overpopulation. I fyou are goung to be gone on weekends, can you take the dog with you? If not, you will have to hire someone to care for them. Dogs require lots of love and attention. If thay don't get that, they will act out seeking some kind of attention, even bad. I may also suggest getting two dogs. A fixed pair, two females, or two males can become the best of friends and help keep each other company. Just make sure that they get along before you take them home! Good Luck a dog can be your best friend!

First you need to decided small or big. Then you need to think about whether or not your going to take them with you when you go away on the weekends. There really is every breed of dog to fit every type of person. It takes a lot of research to find the right dog for you. You need to first ask yourself, how much do you get outside and exercise, are you a couch potato, do you like to go places that allow dogs. What kind of relationship are you expecting to get from your dog. If your not around a lot you need a dog that is going to be less attached. Certain breeds of dogs only want to be around their human. Other breeds don't mind you being away. Go grab a breed book and read over some of the more popular breeds and I'm sure you will find one that fits.
Good Luck

A plush puppy. Dogs are social animals and can develop serious separation anxiety if you are always leaving them. Do you have money to pay a dog sitter/walker for the days and weekends? If you can afford that ($100 +) a week, then maybe considering getting an older dog. Don't get a puppy - they need constant attention especially in regards to housetraining.

No dog likes to be left home alone to his own devices, and it depends on the individual dogs personality and dependance on humans as to how he reacts, rather than the breed itself. If you work a lot and aren't home on the weekends and must have a pet, consider getting a cat instead. Dogs need far too much attention.

I raise poodles and if you can take the dog with you on weekends, I would suggest a small poodle. They are great and have an IQ that is sometimes scary. If you can't take it with you, would suggest you might get a cat as they are more self-sufficient and independent. Dogs need a great deal of love and affection if you want their loyalty. Just reflect and put yourself in the animal's place. Good luck.

labs are very good dogs, but if your gone alot on weekends, no dog no matter what kind you get will be able to take care of himself the whole wk. end. you will need to get someone to come in every few hours to let the dog out, maybe you better get a cat or a bird

None. Please don't get any dog, get a fish !Dogs require a lot of attention ,time and training !If you like to be out a lot, I suggest getting fish because you don't have to spend as much time with them as far as training, feeding, playing and the like .Dogs are as much responsibility as a child is.

If your not home much then you really don't need a dog, It's hard on a dog to leave them home alone. They do get lonely just like humans..We take our dog just about everywhere we go..Get some fish or a lizard something that don't mind being alone..
