Hi :)
I'm moving to the US from Europe. My doctor told me that here, in the US women are using Ortho-Evra patches - in Europe it's called just Evra. Can you tell me how much is it and who can prescribe me this? Do I need to have special insurance to get it?

I'm using Evra right now but sending them from Europe to US is a bit frustrating :/
Girls, do you think that pills are better than the patch??

That Ortho-Evra gave me a heart attack at the age of 33. I am 5'7" 135 pounds, and in good health until I got the patches. Be carefull it has killed people. Here is some of the history of the patch. I am still think about taking them to court.

I was not thrilled with the patch. I was initally sketchy about using a "sticker" as a form of birth control. Not to mention because the entire body is covered in fine hair, the patch moves slightly (due to sweat towards the end of your week wearing it) and it pulls. Not to mention its just plain ugly to see. I spoke to my doctor and now I am using the Nuva Ring which i absolutly LOVE. It is a once a month ring inserted into the vagina and remains in place for 3 weeks. You remove it at the end of the third week and get your period. Its like CLOCK work. I'm much happier with this than i was with the patch and i wasnt so great at takeing the pillat the same time each day so this is best for me. Whatever you choose, makesure it fits your lifestyle. Good Luck!

i switched back to the pills after being on the patch for a year. i read somewhere that your body gets much more estrogen because the pill has to go through your stomach and dissolve into your body and with the patch the chemicals go right in through your skin.too many bad things ive heard about the patch.but if you want it, go to planned parenthood its cheap.

yea the patch has a lot of bad side effects, here in the US the FDA (federal drug administration) put out a NEW warning about the patch because it has caused heart attacks, blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, and DVT's in women...when using the patch we receive 60% more estrogen than those who use the pill....
i myself was on the patch for a year.......had to my health was in danger ...its up to you but you might want to consider switching to the pill, or nuva ring..anything BUT the patch...

you need a prescription from your doctor for the patch. I was on it however had side effects. No worries though I have side effects to any birth control with hormones in it. I loved the patch while I was on it though.

You should check out the vaginal ring as well. I heard the patch can fall off.

A doctor or midwife can prescribe it to you.
