Well, I don't know. I cannot answer that from an emotional aspect of it. That is like me questioning "why did God allow my dad to abuse me as a child and then allow me to be raped when I was 17?" That is something that you need to ask Him when the time comes. There is a reason but contrary to what people believe, God does not owe us an explanation for every little thing that He allowes. That sounds harsh I know, but it is truth.
From a historical point of view, WW2 had to happen to help fulfill Bible prophecy of things to happen before Christ's return.
Sorry if this isn't the answer you were looking for.

When man chose to do his own will instead of God's, man chose evil over the love of God.
That is why there is so much evil in the world. God gave us free will to choose. When man does bad things in the world, God uses it to our good.
God is in control, even though sometimes we wonder during really bad times.
WWII was a fight between good and evil. The evil came to such a height, because those who could have done something early on turned a blind eye to it. That is called compromising, what the liberals would like for us to do now.
When you compromise with evil, evil does not take even sides. Evil takes the advantage every time!

The reason bad things happen is because of God's enemy, Satan the devil. He challenged God's right to rule over the earth and said that humans do not need God and could rule themselves independently without God's help. God is answering Satans challenge by allowing man to try to live without his interference. Satan also said that humans would discontinue serving God if he( Satan and his demons)) were allowed to cause them pain and suffering. There have been and still are many who are proving Satan to be a liar, who love and serve God loyally, despite whatever persecution Satan brings upon them.
What has been the result of man ruling man without God intervening? Suffering and injustice, wars, crime and hatred.
God has promised to soon rid the earth of all those things and to destroy Satan and all who follow him.
We need a righteous ruler who will be just and merciful. Human rulers can do nothing for us. (Psalm 146:3)
Look what Psalms 37:9-11 promises us--" For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."

If God stopped bad things from happening when Satan is in charge of the world, wouldn't he be helping to prove that Satan is an ok ruler??? God can undo all the bad effects of the things that are happening, but he wants all of us and all of the angels to first understand that we can only have peace and happiness if we allow him to guide us and quit trying to follow Satan's misleadings as Adam and Eve did. Do you have enough information to make the right choice? Unfortunately some still don't.

An atheist will tell you that there is no god, and people did it.
A former Jew will tell you that after WW II, any European Jew still alive either became an atheist, or wasn't paying attention.
I'm a Pascalian Protestant. I believe that God isn't actively involved directly in world affairs. Any of God's influence in the world today is only through his followers.

The cruelty began after the Fall... we had a choice and chose to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, so now we know evil. Sad. Only when this world is destroyed will we know heaven - no sadness, pain, or death. Until then we suffer; and God suffers with us. May He bless you. ~Nisa

Here we get into that old chestnut, Divine intervention vs. free will.
If we are in charge of our lives, God cannot intervene and atroicities happen.
If God calls the shots, why does He allow evil in His world?
This has been debated endlessly for centuries.
You won't find the answers here.

God (Jesus) will never allow His people to suffer and He is showing mercy to ungodly people, so that they come to Him with repentence. Instead of coming to God they are doing harm to His people. But God will never forsake His people.
