The great sci-fi movie, now looks like sheer genuis.

Civilization quibble amongst itself, builds the weapons of mass destruction...and the apes take over.

Ape culture, as depicted in the movie, how different is that from any Islamic country today? Visually...philisophically?

I believe this great author should be given the Nobel prize and declared a Prophet, next to the great Samuel Huntington.

Well it's a little early; we haven't self-destructed .... yet. But I know what you're saying; I've done both the book and the movie and yeah, the original movie truly was a work of genius. Actually for my money, Franklin James Schaffner was a better director than Boulle was a novelist. Just my opinion, but Schnaffer did win an Oscar for "Patton" plus four Emmys for his work in TV. He also directed the cult classic, "The Warlord" and the achingly beautiful "Papillion".

All great artists are prophetic in some way or another which incidentally is why the supposed struggle between the sacred and the secular is imaginary. Humanism (aka "secularism" "the secular tradition" etc) is itself a metaphysical path whether it's adherents know it or not. It certainly has it's share of both dogmas and narrow, shallow dogmatists but it also hosts a profound inquiry into the human condition that has gone on for centuries and is not finished yet.

Just another thing that makes the West worth defending against all enemies....

Use your substantial pull with the Nobel Prize committee to have him nominated, then.

As well as your pull with whatever bodies declare people prophets. Generally these days these bodies are called cults. You can even create your own organization that declares sci-fi writers as prophets.

It'll all be goofy and ridiculous, but no one is stopping you.

Also, you are certain that the apes will indeed take over? Because if something is to be accurately prophetic, it must be that what is prophesied is certain to come true. Otherwise, it is a lame superstitious prediction born from an impotent mind.

I wouldn't say a prophet.

Man, you really like to stir the pot!

PS Rod Serling DID help out a little with the movie script. It certainly does have that Twilight Zone "twist" at the end!

In the next 500 years, who knows, the Planet of the Apes might become gospel!

No, not at all. We don't need any doomsday prophets. Remember, it a sci-fi story.

I am sure the Nobel committee is giving your proposal all the attention it deserves.

I thought agnostics were supposed to me more open minded.

You're just as bigoted as a Bible-thumping Christian could be.
