Several reasons:

1) He's got no money to support one.
2) He's been "bitten" badly in the previous.
3) He's got phobia about having one.
4) He's got some deformity on his body....
5) Against his religion?

I'll break this down as best as I can.... and I have experience. I've spent the better part of the last 5 years not wanting a girlfriend. I'm 26 years old.

A relationship involves a degree of certainty with someone that I haven't had since I learned that I needed it. It involves a vulnerability to another person that I'm not comfortable with unless I'm really sure.

My last 'relationship' was the most intense 3 months of my life... culminating in the kind of heartbreak I couldn't possibly have expected. I'm jaded by my past experiences to a degree.

But moreso, I'm waiting until I meet a girl who's capable of reassuring me, or who I feel like is worth getting hurt for.

Most guys... it means they want to play the field I guess. And I play the field plenty too... I'm sure that's why people think I'm single. It's not.

I'd trade single life for a good relationship in a heartbeat. Finding a good relationship is a different story though.

Hi hon...you should definitely take a look at the book, "He's Just Not That Into You." I don't mean to discourage you, but in my experience, when guys say that they don't want a girlfriend, they mean that they don't want YOU as a girlfriend...they're just not brave enough to say it like that.

I don't know all the specifics of your situation, so there may be other factors that I don't know about, but in my experience, when a guy says, "I like you, but I don't want a girlfriend right now," that's just his way of letting you down as gently as possible. This doesn't mean that there's no hope at all for your future together...but it doesn't sound like he's ready for a dating relationship anytime soon. He may honestly love you, but it sounds like he loves you in a different way than you love him.

I'm really proud of you for telling this guy how you felt, my dear....I know that must have been tough! My thoughts and prayers are definitely with you right now.

Because he doesn't want a girlfriend.

Being in a relationship takes a lot of time and either he does not have a lot of time bc of work or school or he does not want to give you a lot of time bc he likes hanging with his friends or whatever.

I think he totally means it when he says he loves you, he just maybe loves other things more right now.

Sounds to me he is a young guy. Young guys like to run around and have a good time. Some, do not want a gf around, slowing him down from all the good times!!

He wants to keep his options open and not be tied down in a relationship that way he can do what he wants when he wants with who he wants.
