My new computer has tons of offers and junk. I put it all in my documents in a folder. Is that right? I bought windows live onecare for it too. The guys at staples said to install IE 7 beta if I opted not to use mozilla/firefox. I couldn't find it on microsofts download site. Instead I just downloaded all the updates for XP Home and that included IE 6 updates. I need advice? Am I safe?

OK

1) Moving all the offers and junk to you My Documents. Hopefully you remember where you moved them from, so you can move them back, and then go into the Control Panel, click on the Add and Remove Programs and uninstall any off the software you do not want. (It can't install them if you have moved them).

2) IE 7 is no more secure then IE6. It just has the lastest and greatest features. But given a choice, use Firefox instead. It is much more secure.

You have all current update and Windows OneCare is providing anti virus etc so you are safe but keep up to date.

Unless you know what you are doing you should NEVER install beta versions of anything. It was very, very irresponsible of the people at Staples to suggest you should and I would recommend you take the matter up with the management. Beta software is for testing purposes only and may contain flaws that expose your machine to possible threats.

All the junk is removeable with the Add/Remove Programs tool in control panel.

You are safe. Probably safer.
Below is the link for IE7 Beta. I have it and I like it, but some sites (Wells Fargo Bank comes to mind) won't accept it. Since I don't want to revert back, I don't use Wells Fargo.

You can download IE7 at http://www.microsoft.com/ie
I suggest using FireFox though...it works better and is much more customizable.
