It's called job security. But you can't solely blame police in general. The job itself is problematic. I've recently realized that the nation that advertises to be enlightened, really isn't any more evolved than to social systems of the past. We may as well be living in Roman times.
The individual police aren't the ones who are bringing drugs in to the country, they are just following orders. Like you said, if there isn't anything to fight there would be no need for public service. I believe that the job of the police is obsolete. There was a time when people could be trusted to mostly govern themselves, but with the so called increasing crime rates, once can only assume that something is completely out of wack. In my opinion, there are too many laws that overlap but never cover what really matters.
Then there's the issue of misdirection on funds. There would be no need for officers to patrol the homeless population if there were no homeless. There would be no need for truancy officers if there were stricter measures over schools. I think there's just too much to be done and no one to do it.

Well the police have helped me loads of times, even saved my life! There is no excuse for violence or 'capping' the b*****d's as you so eloquently put it. Unfortunately racism is still an issue in general society, the police are no better or worse than your average guy in the street. It is actually people with views such as yours that encourage racism, hatred and violence. Grow up mate, stop trying to sound like a 'gangsta' and come join the real world, problems need discussion and real solutions, we're not in the movies or the middle ages now!

This is the second asinine question you have posted.
I feel sorry for you because you live a demented, twisted life that apparently revolves around drug use. One day you may hit rock bottom and realize that you are a sick little man.
As I have stated before you are free to move your dope smoking butt to the country of your choice. Hopefully after you have finished the Ricky Williams doping tour you will come to realize it could be a lot worse than living in suburbia with mom and dad and driving their Volvo.
Again, have a nice day.

Wow, I never looked at it that way. Well, I did, but I ignored my greater evils and still went with respecting police officer. It gives me a nice, warm feeling. I like it. Plus, I know that whenever I need help from--oh, I don't know--being robbed, attacked, raped, carjacked, or harrassed...They will be there to HELP me. See how that is? That's why they are there. What do you want? Well, if anything happens to you, I expect you to suck it up and refrain from b!tching about it to your loyal local police officer, because you don't deserved to be served and protected, ever.
If you can't grasp how hard police have it, think of the NYPD and 9-11. If there's still nothing---you should never be respected, and I pity you.

Go ask your local police department if they have a ride-along program. Maybe you can ride with an officer for a few hours, and see what his/her job is like. Most of the time, it'll be boring. But maybe, just maybe, you'll get to see what 30 seconds of terror looks like. Then come back and tell us what you think about them.
But I wouldn't show up with that 20 lb. chip on your shoulder...

Where have you been? They already have those posters and commercials. It is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of...well next to someone wanting to be a cop that is.
You have to remember...the majority of the populace is not very smart and as such will believe any lies they are fed with minimal effort by the government and police angencies.

I agree, cops are focused on following political orders more than just being a good cop. Maybe that's the rules now days but it sucks. Myself I have had my house robbed twice, cops do nothing. Very common.. I see people getting into car accidents and the cops don't go through with charging..Car accidents are how half of us get to an early grave.
Yet in case my ex girlfriend wanted me booted out of the common work place so she made up this Story that I beat her up 9 months earlier. The cops arrested me with no evidence. There was 6 of them who came to my house.
Cops who did the paperwork didn't even apologize to me for the mistake after the judge and my lawyer caught the woman lying.. By the way the police never arrested her for false testimony!
Cops suck!!!
