This is from the link below, "Home Treatment

Home treatment with nonprescription medications can usually get rid of lice. These products include:

* Nix (permethrin 1% creme rinse).
* Rid, Pronto, A-200, R&C, Triple X, or Barc (shampoos and gels with pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide)."
This is common and most drug store carry the shampoo you will need. Please remember to wash all bedding.

Ok you can either use an OTC product Rid or Nix something in the nature. If that doesn't work put mayo on the head and leave in over night wash out in the AM. I'm not joking I work in a Dr. office and these things do work. If they don't you need to get a prescription for something stronger. You also need to vacuum the entire house, wash the bedding, any stuffed animals need to be put in a bag for 3 weeks and wash any clothing that the person has come in contact with. Check every ones hair as well. Also make sure you pick all the nits out of the hair or else you won't get rid of them. There is lice spray to treat things like the couch, car, mattress those types of things. I know this seems like a lot to do but if you really want to get rid of them you need to do all of this. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Sorry this is long but lice are not easy to deal with.

Please be very careful when choosing your treatment as the health of you or your child matters most and if they have asthma, or any health issues it is not recommended to use pesticides THEY COULD BE LIFE THREATENING in certain situations.
I have recommended the National Pediculosis Association's web site www.headlice.org to each and every person who has called upon me for help as they have very accurate information, are dedicated to education of the public who are not in the business to make money (they are a not-for-profit that has been around since 1983), and have downloads, fact sheets etc... They have more on this one site than I have found in all of my medical books combined, which is why most doctors are clueless with what to do.

Overthecounter products do work very well if used properly but most people get lice back because they do not treat sheets, pillowcases and clothing properly. All the info for that is on the website too. The biggest hurdle is getting all the "Nits" or eggs out of the hair because they hatch in the order they are layed if you don't get them all out just using the shampoo may not be enough.

Keep in mind that just because a product is "natural" doesn't mean it is without risk, (bacteria and viruses are natural too). I also recommend that if you suspect your child has lice to have someone who has seen many cases check them out before you treat them with any pesticide, I had a good friend of mine treat her five children needlessly because she was too embarrassed to have me check them (her daughter only had bad dandruff and she treated all five).

Head lice is sooo evil. There really is no easy way that I found. My daughter got it repeatedly in March '05 and she has really long, really thick hair. The best thing to do to permanently rid yourself of it is to buy the stuff from the store that is supposed to take it away and follow all the directions exactly as it states. I would buy double because the source of the lice may still be carrying it and you don't it (which happened to us). I washed all blankets, coats, etc in the house. I bought big ziplock bags and put all her stuff animals she sleeps with and lays around on in them and put them away for I think like two weeks or so. Vaccuum all the floors and throw the bag away or dump it as soon as you are done. Don't forget the car too. Good luck!!

You can cover the entire head in mayonaise. Be sure to place a plastic bag over it. I use a zip lock bag. Leave it on the hair for about an hour and wash thoroughly. You then need to go outside into the sun and look through the hair. You will see brown eggs ans probably some eggs that look clear or yellow in color. Make sure you remove ALL of them. Boil all hair brushes & Combs. Wash all bedding and vaccum thoroughly. Once you have done that use Coconut scented shampoo and conditioner at every wash. Lice do not like coconut.

Head Lice Advice

A new study has revealed that the best way to get rid of head lice is by fine-combing wet hair, and not the popular chemical products available in chemists.

The research, carried out by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, examined 126 children with head lice. Seventy of them were given over-the-counter chemical treatment; the remaining 56 were treated by fine-combing wet hair, with what the team named the ‘bug busting kit’.

Fine-combing wet hair was found to be four times more effective than chemical treatment in eliminating head lice: wet-combing was 57% effective, while chemical treatment was just 13% effective.

"Some may consider that the cure rate of only 57% detected with the bug buster kit is still unacceptable and may not provide an efficient treatment against head lice. At present, there are no readily available products that provide fully effective control of head lice and there is an urgent need to identify safe, novel insecticides of proved efficacy," said the researchers.

How long have you or who ever had lice? A Cheap and easy way that the doctors wont tell you is to use your hair dryer. Yep, thats all you need unless the lice is really bad. Just blow dry your hair, but you have to be able to take the heat. Keep the dryer on your head until it burns, until you cant take it anymore and do this as often in the day and night as you can! Its just like your clothes...they tell you to wash and dry everything because the heat will kill it, so do the same with your hair. When you do it, keep an eye out because you will start seeing them just fall right out of your hair, its crazy but it will help alot!
