I have a friend who just starting dating this girl he met. They went to her brother's house for the first time the other day. My friend was horrified by what he saw. He said he saw 9 adult pitbulls and they had marks and wounds on them. He also saw a treadmill in the basement and lots of plywood. He strongly suspects that this guy is involved in dog fighting even though the guy denies it. My friend is a dog lover and he wants to call the police but he is not sure what to do because he suspects that this guy may also be a drug dealer and might be dangerous. His girlfriend also denies that her brother fights these dogs, saying that he just breeds them. But my buddy knows something is not right with this. What should he do? Should he report this? Could be putting his life in danger if he does. what would you do in this situation?

I told my buddy to be careful about this new girlfriend. There is no way she can't know that her brother fights dogs. I don't think she is telling the truth. I probably will report this myself if he dosen't. But he is concerned that by him just visiting the house ans all of a sudden the cops show up, that the brother will figure my friend is the one that tricked on him and may come after him. i think he should leave that girl alone.

Call your local humane society and just tell them the facts..all of them..they will investigate, and they never reveal their sources..If YOU do it, it can't be traced to your friend..Warn them of the possible drug activity, and they might seek help from other investigators..

Pit Bull fighting is illegal... in some states it's a FELONY offense. (So the guy may acutally do some jail time if he's convicted.) It's not unusual for those who stage dog fights to be involved in other serious crimes. Reporting your concerns to the police may give the officers the "just cause" they need to get into his house and take a look at what else he's up to.

For the dogs' sake and the safety of your community, you need to report your concerns to the authorities immediately. Most such complaints can go initially through your local animal control office, and you can usually file animal cruelty reports anonymously.

Be a hero. Do the right thing. Report the guy... You may lose your girlfriend, but you can save your neighbors and a lot of dogs from a criminal.

He should contact the authorities right away. They will kow how to stakeout the place and catch all the people involoved. If he is scared for his life he should not try to take pictures or continue talking about it. He should act like he doesn't care. I also agree he should get a new girlfriend. Anyone who knows there are innocent dogs being hurt and doing nothing about it is some kind of heartless monster. Not to be sexist (I am a female), but it's even worse that a girl would be so heartless. We are supposed to be the compassionate sex! Also it's not just about the dogs. Often people who fight dogs are drug dealers - and no matter what people think about the morals of dealing drugs, these people do carry guns and kill/shoot people. And tell his girlfriend to remember it is NOT always other drug dealers they shoot - an innocent child could be caught in the gunfire. His girlfriend is also in danger if she is living that type of lifestlye.

Wounds on pitbulls could be do to normal tussles, especially if they are intact (like for breeding) and not constantly supervised and separated when not supervised. Having a treadmill for your dog does not mean you are a dog fighter.

You can call animal control anonymously and say there is a concern about the:
1.number of dogs housed there
2. vaccinations

Do NOT automatically assume that because someone has more than one pitbull (I have 2) and that they have a treamill (I don't, but know of people who do) that they are dog fighters. While it is a possibility, it could be just as likely that the dogs are just being exercised.

Are the dogs on heavy chains? Do they seem well mannered, or people aggressive? Dog fight wounds are severe...not little nicks and stuff...

Are the dogs housed together? Do they interact together? If they do spend time together, lounging around, playing that it is highly unlikely they are being fought, as fighting dogs are incredibly dog aggressive.

Goodness, call the local authorities right away! He probably is a drug dealer also, dog fighters usually are !Tell the local humane society, police, and whoever else is in high places!Keep trying until someone listens !Take some photos of the place and the dogs if possible.Your friend could probably get some police protection is he's in danger.

YIKES

Yes he is prob fighting pit bulls. It is illegal as you already know.

IF I were this guy,..for starters he should NOT be dating this girl as she must also know what her brother is doing...

I would worry about gang ties as well if he is a dealer... You did not say where they live...

If it were me... I would call the local ASPCA first and tell tem what you t hink is going on but not disclose locations or names... just tell them what you are afraid of

See what they say... if they do not give more info to go with nd take a real its illetgal and you have to tell us approach then call local police again without giving out identifying info and see what they say

Then once he has the info and the facts he can better decide what to do.. He should however no matter what lose the girl.

It is possible that the marks on the dogs are from them fighting with each other... but doubtful
He should go with his gut...

I wish you well.....

Call your closest pit rescue and explain the situation. They will be your go between. They can have volunteers check things and see what is going on. In most cases breeding and fighting go hand in hand.

There are other dog rescues that will help you too. I know my local SPCA is worthless. I just got a report today of someones pet sitting at the shelter even though it was microchipped. They said since she didn't have a tag they didn't scan her. Defeats the purpose of the microchip. The SPCA is also run by the county and they will probably want your name as to who filed the report and how you know this info.

Best bet get ahold of rescues in your area.

Fighting pit bull terriers no matter how young or old will be humanely euthanized. It is a shame, but I feel your friend should contact the local human society which will in turn contact local police.

People have to stop being afraid of repercussion when a humane or civil duty is involved. If he is truly a dog lover, he would do the right thing and contact authorities.

Good Luck!

I would definitely report this. If he suspects the guy is dangerous you don't have to go to the police right away. If you alert the spca about the dog fighting they will go the house and inspect the premises. If they believe there is illegal dog fighting going on they will have the right to go into the house. If the spca expects other illegal actions they will alert the police. You are able to call the spca anonymously so your friend shouldn't be in any danger. Please have him do something. I really hate to hear about dog fighting.

If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck...call animal control, call the police. pits are such sweet animals, i hate when they're turned into monsters by evil people. tell your buddy that the new girlfriend lied, that there is no way she could really be ignorant of something that obvious. you call if you don't think your buddy will. I say do it while your buddy is with his girlfriend, so that he's not blamed. tell your bud that this seems like a dangerous family. (if you thought your girlfriends brother would kill you...come on!) You'll be doing a good deed.

He should report this. He can make an annoymous call to the ASPCA. From what you've descibed I'd say this guy is definitely fighting these dogs.

Unfortunately if this is the case, the dogs will be put down once taken away.
