Did Muhammad promote violence or peace?

Question

I keep hearing that Islam is a religion of peace but is that what it's founder believed? Was the alleged profit perhaps two-faced? He talked of peace when it suited him, but did he not take Mecca by force? How do Muslims account for this paradox? Was Muhammad bi-polar?

Please don't respond with "Christians are violent. Look at the crusades". It's a moot point and not the concern of this quesion.

There is no religion that i know of that promotes violance, If The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) did promote violance then why didnt Muslims be violent back then? Why didnt they go out to other countries and start killing people for no reason and most of all why didnt they figh against them selves? Islam means peace and so if the Prophet did promote violance then he wouldnt be a Muslim. There is approx 1.6 billion Muslims in the world if the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) did promote violance then why isnt 1.6 billion Muslims destroying the world right now? why is it that about 10 000 of them are doing that?

Also it states in Islam that you shouldnt force some one to convert but you should do it with peace. This is because the person who is forced to convert will always change his/her mind and wouldnt have true faith in the religion. And thats why Islam is the worlds fastest growing religion

What is the proper way to deal with an insolent Jew? To throw stones. This is not a religion of peace!!!!!!Muhammad did not preach anything new. Everything he taught had been believed and practiced in Arabia long before he was ever born. Even the idea of "only one God" was borrowed from the Jews and the Christians.He was bi-polar or high on something...

The Qur'an is not an inspired new revelation from a God who seeks pure worship, but is a revised counterfeit of 5th century polytheism, composed of previously existing pagan beliefs and practices. Or as Muhammad defended himself in the Koran against the same accusation 1400 years ago.
There are more than 100 verses in the Koran concerning fighting and killing for Allah. If this is true, and if all Islamists believe in, and live by, the Koran wouldn’t this explain the insanity of 911 and the insanity of the suicide bombers. Why not look at a few verses and judge for yourself. Remember there are 8 million Muslims in the U.S. today and the Koran is the book they live by. No matter how much they deny it – that is a fact.

NOTE - Any Christian or Jew is considered an infidel.

Regarding infidels, they are the Muslim’s “undoubted enemies” (Sura 4:101)

Besiege them and lie in ambush everywhere” for them. (Sura 9:5)

Seize them and slay them wherever you find them. (Sura 4:90).

Strike off the head of the infidels. Cut off every finger tip (Sura 8:12)

If a Muslim does not go to war, Allah will punish him (Sura 9:39).

Believers, make war on the infidels who are your neighbors and let them find you rigorous. (Sura 9:123).

Be ruthless to unbelievers (Sura 48:29).

Kill any person you wish if it be a “just cause” (ANYONE! ) (Sura 6:152)

Anyone who fights against Allah or renounces Islam in favor of another religion shall be put to death or crucified or have their hands and feet cut off alternative sides (Sura 5:34).

Let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can overcome. They cannot escape. Make ready for them all you can by armed force Surah 8 (59-60).

“Take not Jews and Christians for friends. They are friends to one another. He among you who takes them for friends is one of them.” Surah 5:51

Why do our leaders tell us that Islam means peace ?

NOTE Verses that are sometimes quoted to show Islam as a peaceful religion were rejected by Mohammed after he turned against Christians and Jews and ordered his followers to murder us. They are no longer valid.

He promoted peace, in his way. It was as with a parent or a spouse who speaks to the unruly family member with the equivalent words to, 'Be reasonable, do it my way.' If we are reasonable, and do it his way, it will produce peace--from his point of view.

Frankly, I think the 'Islam is the religion of peace' thing is akin to the pre-revolution Russia wanting to expand 'simply to obtain a warm weather port'. But it isn't as big a lie as when the teenage boy tells the girl he will respect her afterwards.

Muhammad was a military man; he killed many and had a dozen wives. He was a mere man, died and gone. No man since Adam is sinless except Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, Savior of mankind. There is no Savior in Islam, therefore no one can be saved by the faith of Islam. But Muslims can be saved through redemption of Jesus Christ just like any other human being. Islam only gives them false security, the end of which is eternal damnation in horrible pit of Hell. God loves Muslims but hates the false religion. God is the true light, all other lights are misleading. May God and our Savior be praised for ever. Amen.

It seems like he taught peace in his early years, before he had any power. After that, he preached convert or die. So it seems like North American Muslims, who dont have any power, preach peace. While middle-eastern Muslims who run their countries, preach convert or die. Do you know what the penalty is for converting out of Islam in an Islamic country? You guessed it. Death. But hey, it's a religion of peace. Muhammed was two-faced, and his legacy lives on.
