"A vote is expected later today in Riverhead. Of the lawmakers, 13 of the 18 say they support Levy's bill, which would require all county contractors to verify that their employees are eligible to work in the United States. It seeks to strengthen a 20-year-old federal statute. "
Otherwise the contractors lose their County contracts.
What do you think?

Menina, currently employers get around the laws by hiring through a middle man contractor. This won't allow passing the responsiblity on. The party holding the County Contract will have to certify legal employment, or lose the ability to get county contracts.

The New York Civil Liberties Union is working with others to explore legal challenges to the measure. The union's legislative counsel Udi Ofer said he believes Levy's bill is preempted by the federal immigration law
Ahh the good old ACLU always to the illegals rescue,or at least trying to.
Its a shame that laws to protect the everyday working American are always subject to be circumvented by people who claim "America" in their name.
Well I want my rights protected,I want things I don't deserve,I want to ignore this nations laws and get special treatment. But alas I cant because I'm not an illegal immigrant,I'm just a native Born American.

There are already laws in the books that prohibit hiring undocumented workers and are only effective if they are enforced.

If the law is passed, but not enforced it was just a waste of time.
