As a twin myself, I can perhaps give you some insight. First off, twins usually weigh less at birth than single-birth babies. I weighed about 5 1/2 lbs. while my other half weighed about 4 1/2 lbs. She had to be placed in an incubator and I wasn't. Twins can also have a higher chance of being premature (we were). Not to worry though, this doesn't mean the babies will be unhealthy. My sis and I have always been perfectly healthy. Your wife may be put on bed rest at the end of her pregnancy.
An important thing to always remember about your twins is to treat them as individuals and let them develop their own seperate identities. (The dressing the same thing is cute for a little while.) Raising twins was a challenge for my mom but she enjoyed every step of the way. Twins get a lot of attention and it could be very exciting. Now that we're all grown, we're still getting a lot of attention. Also remember that twins can get very attached to each other. They don't need to "make friends" because they always have someone to play with. Let them make their own individual friends.
I'm sure your twins are a blessing and will bring you great joy. Congratulations and good luck.

Congratulations!! We actually just had twins on May 1st last year... although, they weren't due until July 6th :-p They were born early due to complications from TTTS (Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome), a condition that affects identical twins. If you don't know whether they are fraternal or identical, one thing you should ask at the ultrasounds is to see if they can look at things like the placenta, and whether they are in seperate sacs and such. It's not an issue in fraternal twins, who always have seperate everything, but depending on when the egg splits, identical twins can share certain things that can lead to complications. Chances are everything will be just fine and even if something were to come up, with today's medical advances and technology, most eveything is treatable (including TTTS), so don't get worried or anything. But, the more information you have in general, the better. I really knew nothing about twins until we had ours, but boy do I now! :-p If you have any questions, please feel free to ask by checking out my 360 page (you can find it by clicking on my name)...

A friend of mine had twins 8 weeks ago and they are about to go into a crib, and they will co-sleep. Co-sleeping for twins has been proven to help. If one tends to be fussy, sleeping with the other one near has a calming effect. They also do this in hospitals if one is having breathing problems. Having contact with the other twin helps regulate the breathing of the one not doing so well. My son was a preemie and while he was in Children's Hospital I saw this done with his roommates in NICU and was amazed at the results.
