I went to Costa Rica one time and had a layover in Miami, and I lengthened the layover to 12 hours on purpose so I could visit Miami. Two trips for the price of one essentially. Are there any airfare sites that specialize in picking layover cities where you can do this? The ideal trip would be maybe 2-3 layovers, a day in each place. Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. It's called an open jaw. You should call the airline and ask them for an open jaw and tell them the city you want to layover in. The airline you choose is important, they will have to fly to the city you want a layover in and you final destination. This can be difficult if you are departing from the U.S. and want a layover in say Munich, Germany.

Yes, That's how I travelled across Asia. Left San Fran...stopped for three days in Hawaii...2 days in Tokyo...2 days in Hong Kong...5 Days in Manila..2 weeks in Australia...2 days in New Zealand (local air company, not part of package)...then return was 1 day in Australia...then back to Hawaii...then San Fran. You have to get an agent to do all of that for you. All of this was for $3000.00 I originally just paid for a San Fran - Aussie Flight. Every stop was an extra $50 only. Northwest Airlines was able to let me do this.

Cathay Pacific also offers 10 cities for one price.

I would think it could be done but you'd have to check with your travel agent or an airline. I could be wrong but I think you might get charged extra for the flight however with that many layovers.

Yes.. but you will ahve to go through a tavel agent or go directly to the customer service department of your airline of choice.. if you use a online site.. you might be able to if they offer a multi city feature while palnning your trip..

I would just call the airline that gives you the best fare to the primary destination and tell them you would like an extra day in the secondary destination

Yes, this is possible you have to call the airline or look online and check one or more stops for your search. This will tell you where you will be stopping and for how long.
