My husbands daughter has just turned 14 and her mother put her into the pill. Is it not too early? I know she is not my kid, but I would be afraid that starting too early she would be on that for too long and have risk increased such as infertility and breast cancer. What could be the best for her? I wanted to help.

She was put on the pill for the sole purpose of preventing pregnancy with her boyfriend (or boyfriends)

Someone needs to teach that child about being a child and about self-restraint.

To be honest, I know only one person who was put on the pill at such a young age and she was a complete sl*t. By the time we went to college, she had racked up a list of 22 partners (in barely 4 years!). I think it gives kids a license to mis-behave. That mother should be focusing on her children, not on her children having children. To even consider such a thing indicates a severe lack of parenting.

I am hoping her decision to do this was made with the help of a gynecologist. Girls this age may be placed on birth control pills to regulate an irregular menstrual cycle. As with any therapy, the benefits must outweigh the risks.

On the other hand, if mom is intent on getting her daughter birth control so that she doesn't have to worry about being a grandmother - then, I am afraid she is sending her daughter the wrong type of message. Birth control will not protect against STD's, or the other downfalls of having premarital sex at such a young age.

Try not to jump to conclusions - see if you can get more facts first. Even though she isn't your child, it doesn't mean that you can't care about her well-being and try to be a positive role model for her.

If the pill is to get rid of pregnancy which obviously mean she is already having sex... with anyone... then to me that is too early..
Pills should be used only for married couple who do not yet need to have children..
Pills when used to prevent pregnance for early age sex... or any sex for that matter is not good.
If you like... better consult a doctor or a psychologist... At that age,, she should not yet be involve in sex, but more on her studies..
Unless the mother is selling her like hotcake.

I was 16 when I started the pill to regulate my menstrual cycle - doctor's prescription.
Why did her mother put her on the pill?

the pill does have many side effects, but it also has good ones., like helping with her period, know when and how long, reducing cramps and acne. I think that it would be better to be safe, than sorry. If and when she decides she is ready to have sex, she is prepared. It shouldn't be a license to go out and do it either. Let your step daughter know how you feel about it, or your husband.

She will be fine. I started on the pill when I was 14 and I am OK.

Well, like Becky said, there are alot of benefits as well. You need to know WHY she was put on the pill? How does your husband feel about it?

I WAS 12 WHEN THE DOCTOR PUT ME ON THE PILL TO HELP REGULATE MY MENSTRUAL CYCLES AND HELP WITH CRAMPS. THE PILL REALLY DID HELP ME OUT. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS. I'M NOW 28.

Two words: Butt out! You may want to help but in actuality it's really none of your business and not your child. Fourteen is FAR too young, but again, I would butt out of this situation, because believe me dear, you won't be thanked for butting in if you do! Trust me on this one!
