"A victor only breeds hatred, while a defeated man lives in misery, but a man at peace within lives happily, abandoning up ideas of victory and defeat"
- Buddha -
Yes, live and let live. Deep down inside we are all human beings, and in our core have the ability to love. Why must there be so much hate, it is so unnecesary?

Political correctness is still running amuck. I have no doubt that you mean well by your question and have nothing but the best intentions unlike many in here.
I would ask you a question or two in response if I may.
The president of Iran says the holocaust never happened, no one killed 6 million Jews during WWII, it's not real, do you believe this is a ligitement statement?
Muslims are demanding that the pope retract hes statement that Islam is a violent religion or they will kill all Christians if they don't convert, do you think this is a valid and fair statement?
Christians are blamed for all the wars of the past, we did this or we did that, we fought horrible wars in the name of our religion.
The Bible is not a religion, it is the Word of God and is the Truth.
Jesus Christ is not dead, he rose from the dead and now is in Heaven and very much alive.
It is politically incorrect in this day and age to say a lie is a lie or the truth is the truth. Islam does not teach that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ and therefore it is a lie.
You may as many will call this tit for tat or unreasonible or just my opinion. I on the other hand do think that 6 million Jews did die in concentration camps, I think the pope was quoting someone from the 14th century and even though it may have been out of date was accurate.
I have spoken with people in the Sudan and Nigeria who have had to flee for their lives because they would not convert to Islam, their famileis were not as lucky as they were and they were killed. I know people in India who are now running for their lives because they are Christians in a Muslim area.
You can think what you would like, but they would like to ask you the same question, Would you like to convert or meet the sword?Even if you convert you would be the property of your husband and not allowed to leave home without his permission.
Over 150,000 Christians die each year, just because they are Christians. We don't kill anyone to make them believe or accept the free gift of salvation. We just won't you to have the chance. It's your choice.
I am sorry if this is not what you wished to hear, it is the truth.
God Bless.

It is extraordinarily simplistic to suggest that the historical periods of various scripts, all seperated by hundreds of years are any more or less barbaric than today. It is true that many of the books describe actions which seem incongruous with the messages of peace proclaimed by many of the books, but we also have to remember that many of these are recorded not to condone the actions but for the prosperity of recording history.
And how can we suggest that our historical period is any less barbaric? A person dies every 30 seconds due to warfare, every 7 due to lack of clean water and so forth. More people died in wars in the 20th Century than in the previous 19 centuries combined. And we say we are any less barbaric?

The ancient texts that you are referring to are still widely used today. Does that make this a barbaric period in history as well? I believe it does.
Given what you have stated, before we can move out of barbarism, we must first get rid of the ancient texts that have survived for millenia. I have no problem with that because I don't live by either one. However, there are millions, if not billions, of people that do continue to live by these ancient texts in all of its forms, including tolerance that is also taught in these books.
The most zealous will never get over it, unfortunately, but it is not our place to force them into anything just as we will not allow them to force us into anything. We can get over it but we must have the tolerance and the patience to know that some never will. Continue to live your life and let them live theirs. That's about the best you can do for now - lead by example.

I never agree. Teaching about 'way of life' is not a wrong. If you think it is barbaric period, you can convert the theme or summery of teachings for this age and can implement in your life. I dont know what other religious books are teaching but The Bible teaches the way of life. Please read Bible, He reveals every thing to you.

There is a problem in believing all of the books. One book, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is God's only begotten Son, He came from Heaven to the earth to die for our sins. Because we are born sinful people and separated from God. He is the sacrifice that God requires for man to be able to enter Heaven and live eternally with God. The only sacrifice. He now lives in Heaven with God and is King of King and Lord of Lords. Therefore I must reject the books that do not teach this. I do have peace and love in my heart for those who do not believe as I do.

Why should modern man follow the ignorant ravings of bronze-age men?
If the modern practicioners aren't barbaric (which I would disagree with), then at the very least they suffer some form of mental disorder.

The quoting is good and informative.
The world's great literature is full of violence, hate, greed, and also peace, love, and generosity. We learn from bad examples as well as from good ones.
