My wedding is this saturday, we are having the reception at the american legion and their chairs are all different colors and very ugly. We were planning on renting chair covers till today my mom said we cant afford it anymore. Any ideas on what I could do to make these chairs look better?

Honey, unfortunately, renting chair covers WAS your cheapest option, depending on what you were looking at. Going out and buying material, no matter WHAT material, is going to be expensive and incredibly time consuming. I don't know what kind of time you have, but considering your wedding is in 5 days, I would either look at their lowest price chair cover or talk to the banquet hall about their options.

Another option that I saw at a bridal show that I went to recently was tying a band of tulle around the back of a chair and securing it with a single silk flower (hot glued with a some kind of pin to secure everything) and letting the rest of the tulle hang down kind of like a bow, but without the actual bow. Upon closer examination I could see that it could be replicated rather inexpensively and you could certainly arrange the tulle to cover more of the chair and it would detract from the tackiness of the chair. I just don't think you will be able to do a full on chair cover in this short amount of time. Good luck honey!

Wow Saturday and you had not already rented them? You are cutting it close.... How about dimming the lights so details are not has noticable?

One suggestion.... Have you looked into the cost of chair rentals? I knew of one store who rented their chairs cheaper then their chair covers..... Less chance of the chairs coming back with permanent stains.

Also did you rent anything else from the store where you planned to rent your chair covers. Go in early one day and ask to speak to the manager. Tell the manager that you would love to rent chaircovers too, but they are to expensive for your budget. Smoothly bring up that you have rented other items from the store. Ask if they would be able to give you a discount on the chaircovers.

They might very well go down enough to make your chaircovers affordable. Make sure you also say how happy you are with the service you've recieved and plan on recommending them to everyone. That will go a long way as long. All businesses use word of mouth to some degree and they will appreciate you spreading the word about how happy you are with them.

Another option if you can sew or a family member or friend can. You could make some half-covers. Simply sew two pieces of fabric together in a size that will fit the back of the chair. I am assuming the chairs at the hall are the metal folding ones. So you will need to make the covers in a d-shape on it's side. That will allow you to cover the top of the chairs. You should be able to find a nice fabric at Wal-Mart. They often have a wide selection of fabric at just $1.00 a yard. And you should not need more then a yard per chair.

Why not consider renting chaircovers just for the head table? And then the parents table? If you are setting up your seating that way.

Unfotunately there is no cheap way to cover the chairs. Unless you want to use trashbags. Just kidding.

I know you want everything to be perfect, but believe me no-one is going to mind the chairs, and the ones who do shouldn't matter. You marriage should be the focus.

Congratulations and best wishes for many happy years together!

Dear, it's a little late to be thinking of this now. Frankly, there isn't much you can do at this late date, and if your mom cannot afford any more, as you say, then just get married, have the reception, and move on. Really, no one will be paying much attention to the chairs and years from now what they looked like will NOT even be remembered. TO the person who suggested you run out to a fabric store and buy tulle and ribbons (stating this was INexpensive), she must be from outer space because it would cost you a FORTUNE! Just go with the chairs as they are and relax.

Tulle is inexpensive & can to tied over chairs with ribbon
to match your colors. Easy to do & inexpensive. Good luck!

Tulle is 108" X 60" & at our Fabric House it is $1.09 a yard. No outer space about 4 miles from my house. All my children & neices & nephews are married & I have handled most of their receptions. I have found tons of ways to help my siblings save money in decorating. You can leave it alone & keep same chairs apart, so it seems on purpose.

Not knowing exactely what the chairs look like, maybe...
try placing a white pillow case or a solid color one (your chosen colors will be great) over the back of them. It would provide more of a uniform yet custom look.

Congratulations on your nuptials and new life!

go to a fabric store and ask where there Muslim cloth is. you should be able to find some cheap plain fabric for about a buck per yard. than take a bottle of R I D fabric dye and you can dye the fabric to match your wedding colors. you can take the fabric and wrap it around the chairs and secure it with safety pins under the seats so no one will see them. and ribbon or bows and your done.

Have enough booze around and no one will care about the chair covers
