Anyone got any ideas for my dads birthday, he will be 63.

He doesn't listen to cd's, read books or watch films. He is not into clothes, cars, sports, tools - only boats - and anything for a boat costs an arm and a leg.. plus he has most of it!

If it helps, he is a hardworker, always *doing* stuff and helpful to others and a fab grandad.

I am at an absolute loss for ideas this year!

what about a model of his boat

get him a Galileo thermometer, those things are cool

what about a key chain of a boat that he can keep his boat keys on, you can put engravings on it too

well if you've got siblings it might be a bit nicer, but get a picture frame of you now with your dad, and then a pic of you when you were young, or if its just the two of you have a pic frame with an engraving saying "Still Daddy's Little Girl" or something like that

or else I've seen this thing, its called a weather station clock, its got the time, and then things about the weather, like the temperature, humidity, precipitation, etc.

If you have the money or get the other siblings to chip in, pay for a boating/sailing course/holiday or what about a tall ships day.?
what sort of "boats" is he into?

If he's already got most stuff he wants, why not just make up some slips of paper with "IOU's" and give it to him in his birthday card envelope with the card. Like one slip could say "IOU a car wash" or "IOU a day's work in your garden" or "IOU a day at the beach" or things like that. Think of what he likes, gear these slips of paper toward this and I think that he'd like it. It doesn't cost anything and I think it's a more effective way of saying "I Love You and Appreciate You".

Well, I am a 62 year old man, and understand your problem. I want what I want, and nothing else will do. I suggest you give him a gift certificate at one of his favorite stores, like ace hardware, Lowes, or maybe an outdoor store. Or maybe an outdoor/work clothing store. LOL. We can be gruff and grumpy, but we love you to death.

How about gift tokens - that way he can choose himself and get something he really wants.
