essentially you have a "love" or need for eating as it probably makes you feel good eating so and so foods. but you get to a point, usually afterwards, when you take a look at yourself and then begin to notice all your flab and disproportionate body etc. then you think to yourself, "man, if I didn't eat so much then I wouldn't look like crap." this eventually builds in you to the point where the only thing that'll make you feel better is.....eating. then the cycle repeats and continues until there is a fina breaking point

I have fought depression for many years, and I am very familiar with it being worse because of what I eat.

Certain foods (sweets, starches, alcohol) will make the depression bearable for me for an hour or two, and then I crash, being more depressed than before. I can imagine it's very much like being drug addicted.

Even when I'm not depressed, eating a lot of those kinds of foods (over a few days) will cause me to crash and go into a cycle of depression. Once I'm there (as I am now), it's really hard to not eat the kinds of junk that give me the fast lift (literally, like brown sugar out of the bag, canned frosting, chocolate syrup or a shot of tequila or red wine).

I really believe there must be a chemical component to this kind of depression, and it is awful. My brain won't shut up, I'm grouchy and angry, and I want to be left alone. I've even expereince waves of feeling like I want to die.

So yes, depression and food/overeating can go together. I'm living proof.

Have you ever watched that special about the guy who does nothing but eat McDs for a month? Well McDs changed a few things like banned the use of antibiotics from their farm use. But no one else has including farms that produce for grocery stores. I eat only organic or from farmers that are known for not using antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. I mean research in medical books says that if you take an antibiotics and go you in the sun you will get skin cancer. Do you see how many cases they have nowadays? Just google antibiotics in our food.

Sometime ago when I got depressed, all I wanted to do was eat and sleep. What I did to get out of that rut was joined a gym and exercised. I felt a lot better after a few weeks and was able to start eating and living healthy again.

Many times overeating is a result of depression but seldom the other way around unless you consider that overeating leads to obesity and that could lead to depression.
Overall they are linked in one way or another.

A common side effect of depression is carb craving. I am bipolar and when I start looking for sweet stuff, I get worried.
