Single 4 ohms has only two terminals for the voice coil from the speaker while the dual 4 ohms have 4 terminals, two for each voice coil of the speaker & can be wired (series) to 8 ohms or (parallel) to 2 ohms.

The lower the ohms, the more power the amp will push, BUT the hotter the amp will get. Not ALL amps can go down to two ohms.

If your amp is say:

200 watts RMS @ 4 ohms X 1
400 watts RMS @ 2 ohms X 1

it can handle the 2 ohms load to give you more wattage, BUT the subs have to be able to handle the 400 watts RMS AND you can introduce clipping/distortion more easily.

dual has 2 coils with impedence of 4 ohms each.
