Many doctors and and lawyers can ALSO raise crops and build buildings. How many farmers and constructions workers can also perform surgery and navigate the legal system? Obviously not too many, or they wouldn't have as much trouble getting visas, neh?

The doctors and lawyers pay more taxes than they use in services. Poor people, particularly at the low wages farm work is at now, don't pay nearly as much into taxes to cover the cost of education and other services, even if they don't use the classic 'aid' programs.
We have to stretch funding we have by others to cover the poor, which is why we limit how many poor can come. It is also why schools in areas where illegals ignore our legal limits are so bad. Look at LAUSD, for example. Since I have two children in that school system this is a really sore spot with me. Their better life is at our expense and our children are paying the biggest price.

For economy both skilled and unskilled workers are important. While unemployment rate is only 4.5 % ( should be 6 %) it is hard to believe than anyone is unable to get job! Legal immigrants have 20 % more college education rate than americans. Mexican on the other hand are more prone to get hard jobs like in construction and farming which many americans do not want to do ( even if they are paid better salary).
Balanced immigration reforms are necessary for future immigration. On the other hand for those who are already here, it is in the best interest of country to provide them pathway for legal immigration as per senate proposal. Displacing those who are already here is economically disastrous and wishful thinking: even hardline conservatives now this.

I don't agree with your when you say that farmers and construction workers are more important than doctors! I do agree though, that the US wants to keep only those that will contribute to the betterment of the US. Maybe it's not fair, but what country wouldn't do that?

No. I don't agree that people who provide medical care, protect your civil rights, calculate your taxes, manage business, and do other services that require education are automatically inferior.
I'm not saying that farmers and construction worker are inferior either. Each contributes differently to society. But we have much more of a shortage of people with degrees and professional skills than we currently do people who can earn minimum wage jobs.
So, either people should be allowed to apply regardless of their education, or people should be given preferential treatment based on WHATEVER skills happen to be needed most by the society at that time.
If that means construction workers some years, and doctors in different years, that's still fair. Because it is based on societal need at the time. Anything else assigns an arbitrary value to some jobs, and arbitrary rules are rarely fair.

This question is completely pointless! The US Government is going to do whatever it damn well pleases. And if that means sticking microchips under our skin so that information (such as health issues, wage, bank account info) can be obtained from us quicker. Americans are going to put up with it as long as we are kept happy. There is so much that is happening right underneath the general public's noses that is just sickening. But the majority doesn't care because we are happy with the way things are.
Should we ever notice we might get upset but most of us just shrug our shoulders and say, "oh well".

US wants to give citizenship to anyone who earns it by doing it the right way.
While construction workers and farmers are very important, I think doctors are even more important. Lawyers not so much. ;-) Just my opinion.

Most farms are now conglomerate Agra-business largely owned by the Japanese in the US!
I think the US has a harder time finding a person with 20 years of education than it does someone who didn't finish high school!

I don't think that they are more important than doctors because a doctor can save a life, a consruction worker can't but I do see your point

US has enough educated people. What they lack is cheap labor, that's why they import it. And people who just crossed the border and vital to US economy-no govmt program finances thier arrival-they come for FREE and US saves tons of $$$.
I can tell you in many beach resorts the only working people you'll see are European students who come just for the summer. Without them, employees would have very hard time . That's why the US govmt sponsors every year "Work&Travel" programs, although if you work 2 shift you really have no time to travel. THAT'S HOW VITAL FOREIGN workersare to US businesses.
