I just got a new case for my camera to protect the fragile LCD screen, but now I'm concerned about it getting hurt by the case itself. The case has a very strong magnetic closure, and I'd hate for it to screw up the gears inside the camera. Will my camera be okay in it, or should I go for a case with a velcro, zipper, or snap closure instead?

The magnet will not hurt the internal gears or electronics (assuming this is not a camcorder with magnetic tape for recording). I would be more concerned of the weight of the magnet slamming into the LCD Screen. But if the magnet is not bulky, but just strong, then you will be fine.

might be a slight chance of it corrupting your memory card IF it is too close to the magnetic clasp. I was in the same predicament as you and returned my magnetic case for a regular snap case. I suggest you return the one you have and get an ordinary snap or velcro case.

Assuming it is a digital camera there should be no problem with a magnetic field.
