I am very self conscious about my weight. I am not fat, but I am extremely careful about what I eat, and obsess about it a lot...
Most of the time I eat really good, but sometimes I go through spells where I can't stop eating. I eat until I feel sick. I know it is not good for me. If I know it is going to give me results I don't want, and I know it makes me feel sick, why do I do it?

You have a food addiction. It's very similar to a drug addiction in the ways it manifests itself. Doesn't mean you're a bad person; it just means that you use food to medicate yourself in certain situations. Oprah's book "Make the Connection" deals with this very phenomenon. For years, Oprah turned to food in times of stress, when she was bored, when she was upset, when she was depressed, etc. It took her a while, and she had lots of help, but she was able to get to the point where she took charge of her life and decided she wasn't going to bow down to food. Might be worth reading. You might also want to talk to a therapist because there's probably something going on that you don't even realize that gives you this compulsion to eat. The good news is you CAN beat it if you want to badly enough. Good luck!

Possibly self esteem issues, possibly hormonal.
Eat low glycemic index foods which release sugar into the blood slowly over a long period of time, and this also stabilizes mood. Avoid sugar and caffieine, which destabilized mood.
Read "The Feeling Good Book" by Dr. David Burns, to help with motivation and self esteem, and depression.
Join eating issues support groups on Yahoo Groups, and post two or three times a week.
Get a counsellor.
Form your own formal or informal support group, others need help, and giving help is getting help.
Be active in your treatment!!

it could be a lot of things, stress, a food allergy
emotions, The best thing to do, is to keep
a food journal, record EVERYTHING you eat and
write down next to it how the food makes you
feel before, during and after you eat it. If you
notice a pattern, you may have allegies or
your body is reacting to something you are eating
Nutritionists are a good source to help you, also
it could be that you are an emotional eater. A lot
of the 'junk food' is empty calories, that stuff
never fills us up, or makes us feel full, probably
why you would consume more until you feel sick.

Most people are addicted to something--seriously. It can be anything from drugs, alcohol, sex, food....anything.

You should try Overeaters Anonymous. You don't have to be an overeater--just anyone with a desire to stop obsessing about food. There are people there who are all sizes and shapes.
