I just noticed it yesterday. He's been staying at my dad's house for the last couple of weeks and I brought him to my place last night and he looks skinnier to me. He is almost 12 years old. It looks like a big zit on the side of his neck and the pimple doesn't have any hair on it. I tried squeezing it to see if it hurt him but it doesn't. Does anyone have any idea what this may be??? I always check him for ticks after he goes out for his walks and yank out the ones that I find but I don't see a tick anywhere unless its under his skin or something. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!!!

It sounds like the tick head was left in..they do make pimples like that..It could also be a grass burr that is under the skin.. I hope your boy gets fit again..It sounds like he was off his feed while away from you..Don't feed him extra while fattening him back up, but just feed as before with high quality kibble..

If it fits the dog then go for it, but if you are not totally sure you could Google baby names and see the meaning of different names that fit your dogs personality. It is a good way to see some names you haven't heard of or didn't think about using.

Ask your vet. When my Shepherd mix had a "pimple" on his chest ,it turned out to be a tumor. But it was skin colored and about the size of a quarter. It was benign. My lab mix had a tic like lump on her shoulder.Months later it was still there. It was a cancerous tumor. Both were removed and I'm so glad I went to the vet. They did fine.Be sure your vet knows your dogs age. Mine were 10 and 11 years old.Seniors can be with you for a while, though they need special care sometimes.

It is very possible that it is a zit when you squeezed it did anything come out? if not you may want to take him into the vet. they can let you know if it cyst or a hot spot or just a plain old zit. (which more then likely it is) Good luck.

It could be just that--a zit. Or it could be an insect bite that got a little infected, etc. Or it could be a hair follicle that did the same. Or it could be an abscess. You should take him into the vet and see what he/she says about it. It might be harmless, but it might need to be removed, as well.

Take him to the vet. My husky had the same kind of thing on the side of her rib cage. In about two weeks it kept growing I could see the volume of vascularity increase.

I took her to the vet and they removed it and sent it off to pathology. Turns out it was malignant, but we caught it in time before it spread. It was an Aporcrincarsonoma (cancer of the sweat gland).

Have your vet check it out.... it might be just a skin tag or it could be worse.

Good luck

Time for the vet. Animax ointment (prescription) may help the pimple, but it could be staph, etc. so an antibiotic would also be in order.

Could also be a mosquito or spider bite.

Good luck...

My dog had one on his leg that wouldn't go away. It turned out to be a tumor of some kind. The vet didn't do anything, he said if he took it off, it would probably come back. It didn't seem to bother him and he lived a long time.

My dog had one of those and the vet told me it was a hotspot. I would still take the dog to the vet just to be sure. But if it is a hotspot they will most likely just give him a shot of cortizone. Is he itching it, because that is a hotspot symptom.

if you can't get to the vet then do this.
put oil on it and see if what ever it is can be smothered it will come to the top of the spot where it is and if nothing comes out from this, then it's a heat spot for sure.
but if your still not sure what it is then take him to the vet and he can tell you more.
better safe then sorry.
