I agree 100%. It frustrates me that people will default on one of the most unsupported storybook version of how we got here when we have a perfectly good, tested and supported, explanation.
What's worse is people are actively fighting evolution, something many many people have worked very hard to validate, in favor of an ancient speculation that has no support what so ever. These people for the most part consciously ignore the facts out of fear of compromising their irrational world view. Granted a great deal of them are simply misinformed, but they still make no effort to find out for themselves.
There is no debate over the validity of the evolutionary theory where it matters. If evolution were as flawed as many of the proponents for ID or Creationism would have you believe it is, this "debate" would be evidenced within the scientific community itself. As science is constantly striving not to prove something right... but rather to attempt to disprove all that think we know to be true. In the process the truth is discovered and the myths fade away.
The only reason there is any debate at all is because a certain percentage of the population remains ignorant of the facts, either willfully or unknowingly.

That one bothers me alot more than the god vs. no god thing. God can not be proven or disproven scientifically at this point in time. Evolution has plenty of scientific evidence to back it up, but people refuse to even acknowledge it, and would rather accept an old-world myth as fact, saying "because I said so." Why don't they just say that the earth moves around the sun on a giant invisible turtle, its the same thing.

There is no debate. All I ever hear is evolution is proven, but no back up. It's a state enforced belief, no debate allowed, just evolution's assertion it's proven. It's not proven. Few folks know very much about it. They certainly do not know the holes and arguments, as they are repressed by the statement that it's proven.. with no back up..
....One argument alone: if the universe were millions of years old, there would be no helium left in the system.. it rises very fast. 'Science' merely answers such questions, saying "it's an anomaly"..
....Why the explosion of life in the Cambrian layer (of sediment).. and why is the precambrian layer virtually empty?
.....I'd be bored with the debate too, if I didn't love science..

Oh come on now.... it is so much fun.... I cannot hear enough of it.... all those awesome websites that claim all dinosaur fossils are fake, but then demonstrate that the earth had to be flooded, because there are fossils in the mountains....
The pseudo science that can be deflated by any half-well-read 5th grader... it provides hours of entertainment.....
I mean, does it not make sense that god can design the entire universe from scratch, even puts some 'pre-aged' components in there, despite the fact that everything is only 8000 years or so old.....but then sorta, kinda needs Adam's rib to build eve?
And then Noah's ark...how can you ever get tired of that? 20 years of Saturday Nigt Live could not come up with more idiotic Skids than what you get when letting somebody explain that one to you.....

The whole debate of Evolution versus Intelligent Design (Creationism in a bright new package) is merely an extention of the battle of Reason versus Faith that has raged for more than two thousand years. I suspect the battle will rage yet another two thousand years.
Aaaargh!

My answer here would be the same as to the "God or no God" question: I would rather wait for the end to know if I'm right or wrong than spend my energy fuelling needless hate towards others.
On a personal note, I believe that it is possible to reconcile both into one accurate timeline (I have posted my theory three times on three different questions already), but that would not be answering your question...

Why is it worthless? It shows a real problem in that a sizeable number of people that claim to be educated lack the reason to realise that creationism is silly and science is the only truth.

There is actually no scientific evidence for the THEORY of evolution either. Why is it that when it comes to the origins of man, a THEORY can be proclaimed as fact?
The basic scientific process can't even be applied to eveolution. The scientific process is this:
- Observe initial event or occurance.
- Record data and results.
- Recreate event or occurance in controlled environment.
- Record same results repeatedly.
- State results as fact.
Since no-one was ever there to observe the initial event then evolution is just as much faith as is creationism.

There is no debate...there is "my side" and "scientific data." The "My Side" ignores all that is obvious, clings despartately to ideas that cannot be supported by any means...even their crutch fails them when the going gets rough. Why bother? Are you on a crusade to save them from something? Let them wander in their desert of ignorance...they will be very lonely there. This is not a question of religion versus Atheism...it is a question of logic and common sense. Lack of logic always brings forth the "I did not descend from monkey" comments and logic brings forth, "neither did I." But there are miles of differences in the two camps. Agan, why bother? You will convince no one of anything here...this site is designed to insult, bait, and bash people, NOT a place to gain knowledge. Look at the questions! No one is asking for knowledge, they are asking for space to make silly comments and show their pitiful lack of intelligence. Sorry folks, but this site has degenerated greatly in the past few months, and has outlived it usefulness. Good luck and peace.

yes, I think its ludacris that people can think it's okay to teach Creationism in Public Schools. You learn the facts at school and religion at home. Otherwise, its gets all screwed up. If you want to be taught creationism at school, find a conservative Christain school and send them there. If you want to learn theory based on scientific fact and intelligence, then send them to public school and vote for the sane people who believe that religion and governent should be separate agencies.
If we were to teach creationism in schools, who's creation? I mean the Christains, Hindus and other groups all have different creation stories. We'd have to teach them all and thats not practical.
