you put something in the machine, dial in what it is (chicken, pizza, casserole or whatever), weight, etc. and push auto defrost. the time is automatically set for you and it defrosts the food without cooking it. you should check your operating manual to figure out the details for your machine.

Auto Defrost Microwave

Your microwave probably has defrost setting which lower power and/or reduce time in the micro before it starts the cooking process. Consult your microwave cookbook and the Dial for recommendations as to setting. I usually find I have to cut the recommended settings back because it starts the cooking process.

the auto defrost on ours just asks what the weight is, and bases the cooking time on that

It's not very easy because it's hard to know what things weigh, so I usually just set the power level to defrost and put in a few minutes and check every so often

enter the type of food (meat, etc.) and how many pounds and will give standard time to defrost. with my microwave that is usually too long so i stop before it starts cooking the food.
